My engine is *very* dirty indeed. At Subaru they discouraged me from cleaning it as water may come into the engine through the airbox or loose sealings and sensors may be damaged.

Provided that MAF, airbox, throttle are all covered is it OK to do a proper engine wash with the special fluid and high pressure hot water?

Dmel,

I have some truck wash which I bought with me from OZ. I could lend you some the weekend after this one. It is not very strong. You dilute it with water in a spray bottle and then you spray the engine bay with this stuff. You leave it for a few minutes and then you hose off with normal hose pressure. The dirt goes and it still leaves the factory engine wax intact. All this is done after covering the bits you mention. I personally would not use the high pressure washers on an engine.

Cheers,

Wrexy.

I used the wax wizzard's stuff. Spray it on the engine and pressure wash it off with a 500 psi washer. I put plastic bags round my alarm and stayed clear of the intercooler. Speak to him youself you'll get some good advice. Mark 07702 822 544.

The general concenus is when i asked this question was that it removes the waxy stuff that picks up every piece of **** but alledgedly stops it rusting. The stuff i was supplied recoats it with a protective liquid.

No problems so far and looks a lot cleaner 6 months on.

Cheers

Paul

What is it with washing engines???? It's an engine, it gets dirty, oily, splashed with various road stuff. It hides under the bonnet, makes lovely sounds and propels you down the road at great speed. Why does it have to be clean?? If you had huge amounts of Chrome I could understand it.

Not raining on peoples parade, just don't understand the fascination of a clean engine. Body work I understand, even if mine is now two tone. :D:D
