my NTL cable seems very slow latley- its like using a dial up!!!

i checked the performance on a test site and it said my connection was poor!! what can cause this that i can alter or is it tough and a problem with NTL or will i never know???

i recently had a problem where my signal wasn't strong enough and the connection kept being dropped. i got an engineer out, he checked a couple of things and eventually...

disconnected the cable from the back of the modem, removed the attenuator (screw on resistor attachment thing on the end of the cable) and reconnected the cable. et voila! all was hunky dory again.

doing this yourself might not be a good idea, could invalidate warranty etc...

cheers!

Have you gotten around to speaking to NTL yet? If so, have they talked you through looking at the diagnostics screens from the Modem? Normally, you can get an idea of the signal strength from there. Example, if you have a Motorola Surfboard modem, you can access the daignostics and setup by going to the following address from your PC: http://192.168.100.1/

Cheers,

Nick:)
