Fuel pump
 

Evening Gents.

recenty had a walbro fuel pump fitted. what i have noticed and its proby nothing to worry about but when i used to remove my fuel cap i got a pppssshhhhh sound , however since the fitting of the walbro i dont get that any more.

should i be worried ? is this a problem?

Check the seal around the pump, as air must be venting elsewhere. Did you put the fuel pump on yourself?

hello there , no i never fitted the fuel pump it was done as part of remap and exhaust etc. but ever since the pump was changed when i unscrew the fuel cap i don't get that phssss noise that was always there before.

I've recently changed mine on my classic, I still get the air escaping as before.

do you think i should contact the garage whom fitted the pump. how would i explaine this as being a probelm ?

I would say the fuel pump has not sealed the tank correctly, meaning air and fumes are escaping. Pull the carpet back in the boot, and see if you can smell fumes. Although it would be better to undo the raised plate. That's easy enough, it doesn't actually lead to any petrol there, its the top of the tank where the pump is located.

As has already been mentioned, check the gasket, it might well be perished.

Its still quite light i will go out and see what i can do. pics might follow.

If its not sealed properly, it could affect fuel pressure, I would have thought.

Okay i opened up the boot and found the cover to get a little closer to the pump.

i had forgot about my subs and amp so i had to quickly remove these.

short on tools as they are all at my work, i had to bend a screwdriver to get to the back screws. as usual one of them was a tight sod !! so it stayed in place but allowed me to take a took.

there was no big smell of fuel or signs of fuel leaks. i didnt want to venture too far with limited tools.

i guess i should contact the garage tomorrow and try and explaine what i think could be a problem.

any feedback would be great tho. sometimes i know exactly what i want to say but find it had to say it , if you know what i mean :wonder:

You could have dropped your rear seat, from inside the car to get to the back screws.

If there was a problem there, I'd expect it to smell from there. So it must be ok.

Was your situation the same as before? ie I only open my filler cap once every couple of weeks to fill up, I always get the noise then because its had so long to build up.

Yeha always when i open up my filler cap i get the phhssssss noise , but since the fitting of the walbro i don't get that anymore , a post has sugested this will cause fuel pressure issues and this has got me worried slightly.

on the other hand maybe its bad that pressure builds up in the tank ?

oh and my rear seats don't fold down , it did look like some bolts might have let it come out , but limited tools tonight and the sun going down didnt help too much.

Most tanks have their own vent, but I'd imagine it must only at a certain pressure.
Follow that guide I posted if you like, and undo the bolts on top of the tank, pull the sender out, and check that the rubber seal is seated properly.
