**Look** what came in the post yesterday

Yesterday, whilst I was at the London Motorshow, this parcel was dropped off

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...en-/Hella1.jpg

Can you guess whats inside?

I have waited almost a year for these ever since I started to see them on impreza's over this side of the pond.

Here comes the tricky bit. I have searched, but I cannot find any decent thread detailing how you fit/wire these up. Can someone point me in the right direction please.

Gotta be a "how to" on supertones on the NASIOC mate?

SC008Y_MAD 01 August 2008 03:46 PM

Thats what I was thinking. I am so excited :lol1:

But NASIOC forum is down at the minute?

BIG FUD 01 August 2008 03:49 PM

horns lmao

chocolate_o_brian 01 August 2008 04:16 PM

are they inbetween normal car horns and the ridiculously cool train horns as per fitted to nate's car:norty:

how much if you dont mind me asking darren:wonder: imported from u.s.?

SC008Y_MAD 01 August 2008 04:22 PM

They were USD $86 or £44 all in.
I ordered them on the 21st July, so 10 days from door to door across the pond was not bad, I don't think.

Before I ordered them I emailed him and we arranged for me to pay for the horns through paypal, without going through ebay. The seller name is on the brown box ;)

Paulo P 01 August 2008 04:39 PM

One thing scoobs need is a decent horn :D I remember hearing about your horn after the royal standard meet :lol1:

I guess they are easy to fit?

SC008Y_MAD 01 August 2008 04:44 PM

I still remember that night like it was only yesterday....My dad is in front of me and i toot my horn first and then I hear a raw of laughter and then my dad toots his horn making mine sound like a noddy horn.

Easy fit. not sure and I am trying to find a decent how do guide. the scoobymods one is vague to say the least.

JonMc 01 August 2008 05:57 PM

I've had a set sat in the garage for about a year now, must get round to fitting them, but can't work out how to get them symetrical. Problem is the power steering cooling pipe is in the way.

AndyLyman 01 August 2008 06:41 PM

Nice one Darren.....

will they be as loud as my Piaa sports horns??

Look what i found :D

Thanks to CVD on NASIOC :D

Supplies Needed:
1. Electrical Tape or Shrink Tube
2. Wire strippers
3. 14G Wire
4. 14G Male Connectors
5. 14G Female Connector
6. 20 AMP In-Line Fuse Terminal
7. 20 AMP Fuse
8. Zip Ties
9. Sime Wire Loom (if you want)
10. Small nuts, bolts & washers
11. 14G In-Line Wire Connectors
12. Vampire Clips

Tools Needed:
1. Screwdrivers
2. Wrenches (for small nuts and bolts)
3. 10mm Wrench
4. Wire Strippers
5. Pliers

What to do:

1. Remove the front grill. And figure out how you're going to mount the horns. I used two existing holes in the radiator support that centered both horns between the side of the grill and the Subaru emblem (see pictures).

2. Disconnect one of the factory horns (or both if you desire). Don't cut the connectors, you will need to use one of them later.

3. Look at the relay that came with the horns. The terminals are numbered, this is what those numbers mean:
87 - (+) Lead for the supertones.
86 - Where the stock horn wire conects.
85 - Relay ground wire.
30 - (+) Power wire, connects to the battery with a fuse.

4. Figure out where you want the relay, because that's going to decide on how you run the wires. Once you have that figured out ...

5. Use your 14G wire to make a harness for the #87 to go to the horns. I ran one 14G wire to one horn, then spliced the second horn with a vampire clip. At all three ends, I used 14G female connectors.

6. Take some 14G wire and crimp a 14G male connector on it. Plug this into one of your disconnected factory horn wires. Then put a female connector on the other end and plug it into terminal #86 on the relay.

7. Find a suitable ground and wire up #85 on the relay. I used a stock ground location next to the batery (see pictures).

8. Now, you need to ground the horns. I ran the ground to the passenger side ground location (see pics). I also made the exact same kind of wiring harness for the ground wire as I did with the (+) lead from the relay.

9. Last is making the connection to the battery. I used a ring terminal and conencted it right to the battery and ran the wire through the protective cover for a clean look. This is where you need to use a 20A fuse terminal.

10. Install your fuse into the fuse terminal and test your horns.

Some things to note:
1. On the horns, the copper connection is (+) to the relay. The silver connecion is (-) to the ground.
2. These mofo's are LOUD.
3. Safedrives kicks ass. Thanks Charles! Buy your supertones there!

Tools and connectors needed:

'Wiring Harness' - I made two of these, one for (+) and one for (-) to the horns: Note that the vampire clip is not taped/shring wrapped yet. Make sure you wrap or tape it.

Battery connection with fuse:

Relay all wired up:

Ground for horns:

Enjoy! Let me know if I misstated anything, I just did the install, so it should all be accurate.

I found them in the UK, but it was about £20 cheaper to import them.

Ah so thats what they are lol
Always wondered what the red hoops were in the grill.
Looks good.

SC008Y_MAD 02 August 2008 11:36 AM

Cheers Frayz for that. I found that thread to and it going to me the way I install mine. But as my OE horns have two spade connectors on each and the car already has a relay, can't I just disconnect the old horns and connect the new ones?

For some reason yesterday, the forum home page would not load, but the threads would if you had a direct link to them.

We will have to wait and see tomorrow. I will try and endeavor to fit these before and after the F1 GP. I am not the most confident of auto electricians.

Yes, you can remove the red bit as it is just screwed on.

wiley

SC008Y_MAD 02 August 2008 03:06 PM

Darms, thank you very much for those pictures. I have decided to mount the relay on the oem horn bracket once I have removed the horn which I think is just screwed into that bracket.

The only real problem is placing the horns. The N/S is fine, but the o/s (drivers side) is a little tricker because of the bonnet release cable and also spacing the horns back further to miss the grill. Have you got a couple of pictures with the grill off by any chance?
