GRINDING NOISE (SOUNDS BAD)

ok i have a major problem and hoping someone here will know the solution.

when i accelerate the car is fine but as soon as i back off the accelerator i get a really loud grindin noise and vibration thru the car, even if i dip the clutch and let the car roll it still makes the same noise but if i accelerate again it stops.

i just fitted a new clutch to the car and when i put it back together one of the bolts for the gearbox subframe snapped so the subframe isn't on right.

the noise seems to be like if there was teeth on the prop shaft and they was rubbing against summit as the shaft rotated. thats what it sounds like if that makes sense?

i'm guessing i fitted the clutch right???

when the box was off the car i fitted the clutch and pressure plate to the flywheel, removed the gearbox fork and i fitted the clutch bearing behind the fork then fitted the fork back to the box then mated the box to the engine again?

Tin shield on the bottom of the engine touching the flywheel ??

cant see it being that as it would do it even when engine is idleing

You have an admitted problem with your subframe that could cause such a noise. When accelerating the engine/gearbox could move slightly and avoid the noise. Get this resolved first. I recently had a broken engine mount on a track day Saxo which made a noise like you describe but on acceleration and quiet on overrun.

anyone else got ideas?

Have you got enough oil in the gearbox ??
Worn bearings on the input shaft will be noisy as hell on over-run and quieten down as you come back on the power as it loads the gearbox.
Get the gearbox mount sorted first and take it from there.
Was the noise there BEFORE you replaced the clutch - if not then that will narrow it down.

no the noise wasn't there before but when i fitted the gearbox it all went back together so smoothly.

if it was a gearbox fault how did i manage to damage it?
