what engine oil for racing???
I currently use Vlavline VR1 5w-50 full synthetic.
However as the race proceeds and the oil temp rises the oil pressure falls. It starts at 5.5 bar and at the end of a 3 minute run it falls to 4 bars at WOT. I need to try something else. Please suggest but full synthetics only. Abient temps 28-32 C. |
oil
Keep away from valvoline, i work for eurocarparts who are the main valvoline dealers in the u.k, they had serious contamination in their gear oils which damaged the diff on my car! Best oil to go for would be something like Millers 10W60, Motul 300v or silkolene 10W50, PM oilman on here im sure he will comment :thumb:

Its a spec c. Already got an oil cooler fitted. Maybe fit a larger oil cooler ? Different oil cooler thermostat ? As for the oil, you really need to speak to oilman and give him all your details, ie car, engine spec, your location, what you use the car for etc

prwatts, oilman works for opie oils, what he doesnt know about oil, we dont need to know.
Tony burns, I think what stavros wants to know is what oil he can put in that BEAST of a hillclimber to keep the oil pressure up, and i think oilman could help him out. Its not like me or you asking whats the best oil for mine or yours. Stavros wants to know what oil will not lose as much pressure after the limited time he gets during a run up the hill. Dave |
I always use 15w-50 silkolene as recommended by RCM.
Nice car Stav, looks like you in Cyprus on the pics. |

Dave Motul then ;) probably a 5w40 fully synth though I would ask a rally expert or a subaru engine expert over oilman, he sells oil's, not engines :) and every engine is different in the way it performs :) Tony:) |
I find Castrol TWS Motorsport 10w-60 to be quiet good ;)

Tony:) Also bear in mind that oil pressure is a sign of bearing wear in the engine; with a 700bhp monster - how long has it been since the last rebuild? :) (I tried it myself; the thicker oil didn't cure excess bearing clearances; When racing oil temps went even hotter, making oil pressure worse :( ) Think you need to look at oil temperatures before assertaining that its actually getting too hot; pressure alone is part of the jigsaw. |
I always assumed racing oils were thinner? im currently using Fina 5w-30 in my car. Paying £15 per litre, but very good oil, improved engine response.
also oil change intervals have gone from every 5000kms to every 10,000 kms....(from around 3000miles to about 6000miles). |
