Blocked fuel injector....
Burnt exhaust valve....
Blown head gasket....
Tired spark plug....
Coil pack failure...
Ring lands breaking up....

maybe a duff engine mount mate

I get a "rattle" on start up and shut down, I always assumed it was just the engine mount but Dunx's post has got me wondering....

blimey! Dunx - you scared the living poop outta me with the possible things that can be wrong but its true i was thinking of some of the things you mentioned. Saying that though i do use injection cleaner in it regular & just installed a new Apexi airflow system as the original was REALLY dirty! this has made things seem less shakey in the engine bay.. i'm going to put on new sparks & oil in this w/e & let you know the out come.. hopefully things calm down a bit & ain't the serious things mentioned above!

thanks for your replies - its been a great help! :)

It could also be that the timing belt is slightly out, although this is unlikely if the car's been running fine beforehand.

Mine used to shake on tickover but was fine when you drove it, it turned out to be the ring lands breaking up in no. 2. I drove the car for over 20,000 km's before it finally gave up. Compression test is the way to find out.

Hope it's something cheap;)

HA ! HA ! HA !

The prophet of doom has spoken.... :lol1:

Seriously, a healthy Scoob is usually smooth at idle, however mine is also "lumpy" at the moment, and till I manage to do :-

1. Clean injectors.
2. Fit new plugs.
3. Test coolant for exhaust gas.
4. Compression test.
5. Leakage test.

I won't know what is wrong....

2.35 is a nice option :(

LOL

Just offering the benefit of my experience Dunx.

Like I said, I hope it's something CHEAP.

As for me? Well, I've just spent $12500 (£6000) on a 2.5 conversion, big turbo etc. Now got 247kW at the wheels with full spool at 3000 rpm.

It certainly ain't cheap but it sure is FUN!

Be afraid little one....

Wha ha ha !

Scary dunx

P.S. Could it be MAF related ?

I'd be "happy" to need to have a Simtek.... :nono:

Hey peeps, i had my cambelt changed 2 weeks ago & defo can't be that making it shaky as its made no defference before & after, so i checked the airfilter it was really mucky so went for an upgrade (Apexi) which i throughly enjoy now & has calmed things down a bit. I luckily don't have any idle problems.. & guessing i have to change the sparks & oil first then poss check to see if i got a leak in exhuast valve perhaps? will keep you lot posted (just waiting on my plugs to be delivered before the operation takes place).

cheers once again;-)
