St Raphael / Frejus - Cote d'Azur

Has anyone stayed in the St Raphael/Frejus area in the south of France?

We fly out on Saturday and would appreciate any pointers on good restaurants, beaches, activities etc. I will be driving down to Monaco for the day and also visiting Cannes/Antibes which i've heard are nice.

Cheers in advance.:thumb: :)

One thing you could consider is taking the train or the bus rather than the car.

I stayed in Nice and bus'd to Monaco.... Then got the train back. Fares are or were dead cheap. Bus from St Raphael might be a bit long though... Train to Cannes/Nice and then bus to Monaco winds along the coast road....

Cannes to me is a place where something has to be happening for it to seem alive. Nice is bigger and generally seems to have more real life to it. The bus tour is worth a try. Generally bars and food are on the expensive side.

Montecarlo was quiet but we were there off-season. Casinos, F1 bar, marina, the hairpins, the tunnel.... All have to be done. :)
We kind of omitted proper culture but we got soaked in a downpour whilst lost. If you need to find the railway station, it's in the mountain behind the church. :)

Take the boat over to St.tropez, don't bother driving as the main road along the coast is a constant mare. Aqualand in Frejus is pretty good, there's go-carting next door. Loads of places to go while your down there, enjoy

Nice area, we spent new year there this year. We were just there to chill TBH and were staying in a resort to the north about 20km in land from Cannes. We just spent our time roaming around and making it up as we go. My only tip is to watch for speed cameras on the main motorway between Cannes and Monaco as there are a couple.

We really liked Cannes and also Monaco. Cannes was good for shopping and general wandering. We also went to St Raphael which was nice.

I stay in the south of France pretty regularly & think its great. St. Tropez is nice, but prepare to be bent over with the prices of drinks & food. Port Grimaud is worth checking out & Sainte-Maxime too. For beaches try Cavalaire Sur Mer (this is where I usually stay, where the boat's moored :)) and Le Lavondou : they're a bit of a trek from St. Raphael / Frejus but the coast roads are brilliant.

Been down that way a couple of times. St Tropez is worth a quick run through once, for about 20 minutes. By local (Northern Ireland) standards, all the beaches are crap. Do St Tropez, then Antibes to see the proper boats, then Monaco to see the the proper boats with proper money. If you have kids, take in Marineland in Antibes. When you hit Monaco, you have to walk the F1 course to appreciate how fekin hard it must be

You can always rely on Scoobynet!:luxhello: :notworthy

Cheers guys, some very good pointers. Our party of 8 has kids aged 3, 3, 6, 18 & big kids aged 35 > 40 so Aqualand & Marineland will be great.

MJW, will certainly check out your beach suggestions.

Roll on Saturday.:thumb:

The coast road drive from Frejus to Monte Carlo is a wonderful drive(keep an eye out for the buses coming the other way they tend to overswing a bit:D) Also you will find nice cafes/bars on the mountain route too, have a great time it is a beautiful place I love it there.
Cheers

Does anyone know if you can take the train from Frejus / St Raphael straight through to Cannes and on to Monaco?
If yes, any idea of cost and journey time?
