CV straight on to Monster then, there are still places recruiting... it's just that they'll be a shed load more competition!

swampster 22 July 2008 05:41 PM

ISn't there some legal minimum consultation period that's required before you can tell people they're redundant

Tidgy 22 July 2008 05:41 PM

got a temp contract position lined up fingers crossed and also a line on a few possible perminent positions, but im just bricking it, just signed a new 1 year contract on the house we rent, also got other bills and worst case is def not a good.

think the worst bit is not knowing, rather just be told on wedm, no warnign or anything, saves worrying about what ifs :(

Depends on the numbers involved. If its less than 20, no consultation required.

WRX_Dazza 22 July 2008 05:47 PM

dont panic mate.

if the inevitable does happen, it might be a blessing in disguise and you move on to better things.

i know it doesn't stop the worry, but it "IS" out of you hands and you'll have to ride the wave.

i hope it goes well for you and have fingers crossed!!! :)

Well good luck Tidgy, but if it goes pear shaped put all efforts into finding a new job fella :thumb:

WRX_Dazza 22 July 2008 05:49 PM

failing that, go to a phone box and speak to your sales dept, pretending to be a prosective customer, and say you've got a big contract that requires lots of structural engineering. ;)

Wife on maternity gets called into a meeting the other day. High probability she is going to be made redundant as well (will find out in sept after consultation process)

Snazy 22 July 2008 06:11 PM

Not good mate, but dont let it drag your health down too.
Fingers crossed for you, even if it is the worst news im sure something will come up soon. Especially with the building boom that seems to be going on.

Can only speak from what I see in comparison to others months and years in the areas I go, and from here it looks like its all go.

Excuse me for not being actually in the building trade, just an observation, and a little better than saying "oh bad luck, crap game to be in in this day and age with the housing crash and all" :)
*zips it again

Don't "zip it".... just join in ;) :D

We're in recession, the buildings that are being build have to be completed, rather than being left half finished..... but new projects are being stacked as we speak...... so not really a boom.... more of a bust!

Tidgy, he Nuclear industry is about to take off, a lot of the original guys have retired so there is a shortage but anything engineering related they may retrain, I work for Amec and they are looking for 700 people.

PeteBrant 22 July 2008 09:10 PM

Sorry to hear that Tidgy and Gazza, sincerely hope you don't get made redundant, and if you do, then hopefully you'll be back in work soon.

Petem95 22 July 2008 09:19 PM

My firm laid of 15% of the workforce in Jan/Feb! My department was about the only one not affected, but you never know when the next round will come.

stevebt 22 July 2008 09:19 PM

unfortuantly it doesn't work that way, by the time the building hits site theres normaly been a years worth of work before hand and were down tooling due to completing our work, same as architects.
