Gallstones

As title really, they are giving me real grief is there anything i can take to get rid of these without resorting to surgery?

This might help shift them but I'm not sure to what extent.

Bit the bullet and go and have a Laproscopic Cholecystectomy.

You'll feel much better after, trust me. And you'll be in and out in a day.

Coffin Dodger 22 July 2008 03:24 PM

My Dad had his out via key hole surgery, as mentioned not much pain, and well worth the results.

Plus, if you're lucky, they'll investigate by putting a camera down your throat and thus inject you with medazalan first. Which is the best drug in the world.

Mrs had these for nearly 12 months before getting to the top of the list, (yes, under Lying Labour;) ).

She eventually had it done by keyhole surgery, but until then was in a right state.

Used to find her curled up in a foetal position covered in vomit:(

No quite throwing up everywhere but anything up to 3 hrs some nights doubled up in pain :(

If you are having a serious gallstone attack drink a table sppon of olive oil. It's bloody disgusting but the oil in your stomach will stimulate the bile duct to produce more bile to break down the olive oil and make the stone pass quicker.

Also lay off the greasy and spicy foods and try not to eat late at night.

Make a nuisance of yourself. Go to Hospital everytime you get an attack. THey will get fed up of you and get you operated on. I did this and got sorte dout pretty quickly.

It won't get better. I got to the stage where I could eat no fat whatsoever. A crisp would set off an attack. At that point you have acute gall stones and you need seeing too.

It gets worse, trust me.

You do need to follow a STRICT diet, t'internet will advise, any deviation from it will cause an attack:(

If you can afford it, get it done privately sooner rather than later;)

I had Gallstones about 4 years ago - the slighest bit of fat put me in agony Even just a bit of spread on toast would have me doubled up, the only thing that relieved it was a red hot bath.

The final straw was when i went to the quacks and i had severe jaundice and was hospitalized immediately as a stone was blocking my bile duct.
I was mortified when they told me my Gallbladder would have to be removed.

It wasn't all plain sailing, there were complications and i was in Hospital for a week, even then went home with a bloody bag attached to me that collected all the bile and crap - ugh!!!

But i have to say best thing i have done, i had suffered for tummy upsets for years which was blamed on ibs, had acid reflux., for no aparent reason, after the op touch would i have never had any problems since.

Do it just for this!!! My daughter had it as a pre-med and was absolutely hilarious on it, whilst I was having butterflies about my 'baby' going under!!!

Gallstones will just get worse, my cousin is going in for an op to remove her gallbladder in Sept as she has put up with stones for a couple of years now but she gets more attacks of it now with nearly everything she eats, keyhole surgery and in for an overnight stay

On the plus side, it is a great way to lose weight.

There's nothing quite like the incentive of knowing that if you eat fatty foods, you'll will experience pain similar to having your liver cut out with a rusty spoon to stop you from stuffing your face.

Fat Boy 23 July 2008 12:56 PM

just get it done - piece of piss day surgery - and the pain and worry will go almost instantly. Worth paying for private if you have the wonga.

Midlife...... 23 July 2008 01:15 PM

Can't some stones be broken up using ultrasound......lithotriptor <spelling> rings a bell ??

What Pete said.

Mys sister had it done and she is on top form again. I think you have to avoid dairy products to avoid the unpleasant effects too.

lithotripsy - yep - had some kidney stones done this way. The doc said do you want an anaesthetic, which made me think it was optional. So, being a double hard *******, I said no....and lasted about 5 minutes before I cracked and told him everything ;)

Day surgery as well - was in and out in about three hours and went out on the (rosy pink) pi55 that night...

I've got what looks like a very large green olive and some assorted manky sweetcorn in a little plastic pot. The agony of an attack scared the sh1te out of me, and the wife. Had it done privately, work insurance paid. Keyhole jobbie, although the surgeon struggled cos I'm a fat git. It took a bit longer to recover as he'd been a bit rough with me, in his words. Better that than the full blown op that takes weeks to recover from. I don't know what pre med I was given, but the wife told me I asked the rather attractive young nurse if she'd like me to stick my little finger up her poop shoot and wiggle it around. Well embarrassed!:o
