Bit of Help For For a Newbie with A Buzzing Noise?

Hi

Recently got a 2001 WRX bugeye with a few dents and a few minor(hopefully) problems. Its high mileage 157000 but fully subaru serviced all its life and it was cheap (i think!).

Anyhow it has an intermittent buzzing from under the dash right hand side of steering column area (almost like a loud solenoid noise) it even makes it sometimes when ignition on but engine not running! Anyone any ideas what this could be?

Also my a/c compressor squeals. It could be the pulley (as it only squeals when a/c is on and the center part of the pulley spins) or the compressor its self. Does anyone know if the pulley can be replaced or do I need to replace the whole compressor and what does that involve?

Cheers for any advice.

Is it only when the lights are on?
I had this on my bug and the headlight motor to adjust the beam height was broken.

The buzz happens anytime - lights on or not. Its from that area of the dash where the headlight adjust switch is tho. Is there a motor in that area? or are motors by the lights?

They are in the lights but it does sound like it's from the dash. Disconnect the lead from the back of the light to see if it stops.

Cheers I'll give that a go - Thanks
