I think what we're looking at here is the next step up in terms of visual detail in a game - I think the average video card in a gamer's PC these days is something like a GeForce2, which gives developers a lot more to work with.

You could liken it to Id's new game - DOOM IIIm where Carmack is aiming for 150,000 polys (compared to a 10th of that for Quake 3 Arena)

Looks good anyways!

Mossman 06 February 2002 08:12 AM

WOW! I take it from the PS2 logo that it is due on PS2!?!? Are these shots from the PC DAz??

Cheers,
Mossman

DazV 06 February 2002 11:51 AM

Mossman, they don't say - but its coming out for all the big consoles and PC.

I think the shots are too hi-res for PS2 - they're probably X-Box or PC

ChrisB 06 February 2002 10:17 PM

Get those GeForce 4 Ti 4600 ordered now guys - those shots are stunning!

Dream Weaver 06 February 2002 11:22 PM

It is for PS2 - I have a rolling demo here from the official mag (well, a demo of a chap putting a helmet on anyway)

Codemasters still haven't mastered the physics/reality thing though - IMHO the cars look like they have a coating of cling film on them, or slime - a bit unrealistic. Some of them also look like they are hovering. Saying that as long as the game plays well it matters not.

Look forward to trying it.

Agreed - I think GT3 set the standards in lighting. You could just imagine a warm evenings racing when you played some of those tracks...
