Greeting From Guatemala! I have some questions about my EDM EJ207... help me please!
 

Hey guys!

Im from Guatemala, my contry is located in central america (the continent :lol:)

im one of 18 EJ207 STi owners... these cars where the first STi to come to Guatemala...

only 18 where sold here... although we are in america...subaru decided to seel European spec STi here...

so..

basic questions..

my car is a 2004 v8 wrx STi...it has the EJ207 motor (265hp)

i have basically found ZERO info about this engine... ive always wanted to know the differences with the JDM motor...

as fas as i know

the EDM uses a vf35 turbo (single scroll) and it has smaller heads...

other than that i know nothing...

does it have avcs?, does it have forged internals like the jdm? and so forth...

some people even say that our cars have a cat in the uppipe...is this true?

i know all the difereces in equipment obviosly but i need to know more about the engine...

let me guys know a bit more please!!!

in turkey we have also ej207 sti's.

this edm sti's are the most familiar cars to the jdm sti's.
this engine is really strong and can handle huge amount of boost with even large turbos.the compression is 8.2. its pistons and also crankshaft is forged. crankshaft has 4 oil hole per bearing differ than the 257 crankshaft it has 2. it can rev up to 8000rpm. you can run 1.5 1.6 bar boost with the VF35. if you only put a downpipe and a catback it peaks to 1.6 and downs to 1.1 but by remaping you can run 1.5 1.6 cont.

also it havent got a cat on the uppipe as my friend said upwards. also has avcs.

i would like to know more about thecnical stuff about EJ207... so the edm ej207 has AVCS, but not like the jdm that has dual avcs right?

and somewhere i also read that the v8 STis including the JDM do no have forged pistons...and that the last STis that got those where the V7's?? :freak3:

what turbos do you guys consider and option for this engine... i was thinking about a td05 20g but some people told me that might be too large for the 2.0.. so i was considering a 18g or even a BIG 16g...

What sort of power you're looking for?
Actually vf35 should be absolutely good enough for area of 330-340HP without too much struggling I guess... depends on the rest of mods.
So maybe you better spend your money on some other mods, good remap to the best fuel you have in Guatemala and the rest of money spend on fuel and drive around and drive, and drive... and... you know what... drive
Spend some money on a good driving school if you like, to learn some good tricks - simply enjoy the car :)

That's my point of view anyway.

I love the STi really... ive done a lot of mods to it...

what im lookin is a stronger turbo... both big 16g and 18g turbos flow almost the same... the 18g a bit more... but i want to know if the potencial power increase over the 16g it really worth a bit of lag

what kind of inyectors are found in the EDM ej207 V8 STi??? are those the standar 565cc side feed pink injectors?

No such thing as a version 8 STi btw ;) it just confuses people too much :lol:

From MY03 JDM cars had hyperheuetic (sp) pistons with a considerably better ecu than any of the previous models, the MY03-MY05 EDM cars carried on using the "forged" pistons until the 2.5ltr engines came out, then they changed (though I believe the UK cars didnt get as complex ecu as the JDM cars did)

Hope that clarifies things a little, so yes your car does have STi forged pistons :) (though the crank isnt as good as the MY03 jdm cars which is grooved and nitrated)

Dependent on how much you are willing to spend and what sort of power you are looking for:
Good 18g from somewhere like Andy Forrest Performance.
FP Green (although there seems to be a lot of confusion about the actual spec of these turbos).
MD321H or MD321M from Lateral Performance (which are very highly regarded on the 2.0l)
The MD321H would be my preferred choice on your engine.

What is your pump fuel octane rating in Guatemala?

what about the valves? IIRC i read that were sodium filled? :wonder:

Sodium filled exhaust vavles only I believe.

The dual AVCS only in the most recent 08 models and possibly some of the earlier JDM models.

oh i forgot to reply to your question...

the octane rating here in guatemala is 95oct for premium, v-power used to be 98oct...but now they changed it to 95oct with different additives :( i miss the old days!

You should still be able to make decent power on 95 octane (pity about the V-power though) ... but still way better than US fuel.

Another question...what kind of injectores are in the 04 EJ207 EDM STi? are those the normal 565cc pink side feed injectors?
