Best Tyres for my Bugeye STI, for hard road use and occasional Track use?
I need new tyres for hard road use and occasional Track use for my Bugeye STI. What are the best tyres and what is the best place to purchase them?:wonder:

RE 070 is standard on newer STI's, not good in slush or snow...
DunxC P.S. Soft Toyo R888's are noisy and don't last long, but boy do they grip in the dry....(Camskill !) |
Ditto, 070s will stand up fairly well to track use.

I heard that the vredestein ultrac is the best for all conditions and surfaces. If you've got the cash. Agree/Disagree???

what ever you want for the road and cheap ebay wheels with crap tyres for the trackday.
You don't go to track day to set lap times but to have fun. Much easier to have fun when you only spent £50 (that what I did pay) for 4 ugly wheels and 4 tyres (not a single one the same). Then build a nice relationship with your local fitter to keep not too damaged/used tyres of the right size once you have finished with your original set of track tyres. Done the mistake once of running (ruining) new tyres due to spacers left at home... |

Hankook RS2 is a reasonable option (from Camskill). Not as good as R888 for grip IMHO but harder wearing and a good compromise for road/track, can't comment vs RE070 as I've have not used these.

Vedestein Ultrac are good and not too expensive. I have two sets 205 55 16. Good in the wet. They have been superseeded by Vedestein Sesanta in SOME sizes. I have one set of these in 225 45 17 and four cost me £305.
Very good in the wet and wear seems very good. |
Where did you source the 225 45 17's?

Tyre Spot, Darlington where I do a fair bit of business.
