Exedy Hyper single plate drivability?
Hi, i was just tyring to find out how easy the Exedy Hyper single plate clutch is to get on with day to day? Is it hard in traffic? I had an AP paddle clutch that had no drive springs and it was a nightmare?
Thanks,Mit |
It can be quite juddery in traffic and needs revs to get it moving smoothly off the line but other than that it is a very good clutch.
Banny |
These take a while to bed in. Awful at first. Now mine has a few miles on it there's only slight occasional chatter which is only noticeable at times such as reversing into garage. Its more abrupt than an organic but is manageable with a little practice.

Thanks for the replies,i've gone for a second hand one in good nick, for a price i couldn't refuse! It can't be worse than my last one. Just out of interest,i've been looking for replacement friction plate for it,for the future, but can't find one. Are they available?

Mines done 1000 miles so far and is no better than when it first went in. The juddery 1st gear movement is shocking and results in a lovely burning smell....... NOT
Its fine once you get going, you dont notice it but in traffic driving is a nonsense Its already done in my up-pipe gasket all the shaking and I dont know what other damage its doing Having had an AP Ceremetallic, its not quite as bad as this, though not far off.... I changed the plate to an Organic on the AP and it was great. If this Exedy doesnt bed in within the next 500 miles I'm changing it to an AP Organic |
I have the twin plate Exedy and I think it is excellent.
Had a couple of stalls when it first went in and was a bit jumpy... 2-400 miles later and no problems. I can pull away with just the clutch fed in (no throttle) and no problems. Seems life some others have had different experiences though. |
I have the twin plate
and find it a pain in stop start traffic but fine otherwise, mine seems strange in the fact that it has never made a rattle noise Rich |
had the exedy single in a rx7 and it was a bitch juddery and noisy..have a ap ceramic on the sti and still juddery on pull away fine in all other gears
as soon as poss i am going to get an full organic plate in there:eek2: |
Does anyone know the part number for the friction plate? It's got TA094 on it, but having no luck finding it.
|
What about carbon clutches anyone tried them?

Fangoria,
Try giving it some hard launches to settle it down. It may slip alarmingly at first (seems to be characteristic of these things till bedded properly, mine did this but is perfect now) and if it does slip back off immediately so you don't cook the thing then try again after a couple of miles gentle use. I'm surprised you report a burning smell as thats something that mine doesn't do and is a relief after previous organic ones. |
