M444GY 13 July 2008 10:08 PM

looking sweet . outside of the bubble:D

frayz 13 July 2008 11:28 PM

Clearly a stunning car and to have 2 of them you must be proud... but i cant help thinking a car such as the 22B is wasted in a bubble.

Id want to use it. :(

WR 1mposter 13 July 2008 11:33 PM

T1000 13 July 2008 11:40 PM

lovely cars. The 22b is my favourite Impreza and it's great to see 2 of them in pristine condition

Guv 14 July 2008 12:06 AM

Very nice:notworthy ..........Subaru's equivalant to a RS 500 Cosworth, if not rarer.......Lucky to have 2:eek:...i'd use one and keep one, best of both:thumb:

wiley 14 July 2008 12:49 AM

mickp 14 July 2008 07:34 AM

Great looking cars and like others have said, it would be one in the bubble and one on the road for me.

The above said it is nice to know they are clean and safe :luxhello:

SC008Y_MAD 14 July 2008 02:46 PM

Do we have to see these pictures, makes me sick with envy. I would use one and keep the other in a bubble.

BLU 14 July 2008 02:54 PM

I'm not jealous, honestly
Seriously, REALLY nice car :notworthy

Dspeed 14 July 2008 04:19 PM

7 Foot 14 July 2008 07:00 PM

Has someone balanced the wheels and stuck the weights on the outside?

GazJenno 14 July 2008 10:04 PM

dont you ever think to yourself that its just a car, an object and your only gonna live so long and you would never have enjoyed it to its full potential?

its a nice car that might be quite rare but its not the best car in the world and can be reproduced and replicated for xxx amount of pounds whenever

even if you drove it out for the first time and wrote it off, the fact that it is just an object means it can always be fixed.... personally I dont see the point in buying a car that was built to be used/driven and then not doing so with it. It might be nice but its not art, like clarkson pointed out art doesnt have a purpose....

.... drive it :thumb:

The 22b can't be repaired in some cases. I killed my engine block recently and got the last one known of in the UK from RCMS (Original jap spec EJ22, not the open deck North American block). My understanding is that Subaru only know of 1 more EJ22 block in the world and that's in Japan.

I also understand that the body panels are now custom one offs only, unless you want to buy fibreglass ones from New Zealand. So yes, I suppose you could pay to have each panel re-fabricated if you've got a gazillion pounds. :norty:

So whilst it's tempting to cry "oh my god" because someone is storing a 22b, I'm glad someone is. 'cos when mine's eventually gone to the great scrap yard in the sky, *someone* will still have one that can be shown etc. The fact that this person has two, one to drive and one to store, is very cool and undoubtedly what I'd do given the opportunity. :)

Oh, and yes there are much better cars to be had to drive etc etc but that's not the point. No one would drive an F40 these days when modern machinery is so much better but everytime I get to drive my car it makes me smile and it feels special. That's what makes it worth it for me. :smug:

Spazy 15 July 2008 12:44 PM

Git :D

austinwrx 15 July 2008 02:19 PM

I'm a bit new to the scooby game- just bought one coz it seemed nice !!!!

but- whats special about these then- just looks like a mid 90's 2 door car ??

is the engine twice the power of the average wrx or something ??? btw I;m not taking the piss--- just asking.

I used to be into old vw's-- so kinda understand the storage thing....... but that was more for museum pieces.

GazJenno 15 July 2008 07:14 PM

they are very rare, only 400 made... have the wide body two door shell from factory... only in that blue and thoes wheels... and with the 2.2litre engine running around 280bhp

I may have been abit pedantic on the matter before... but I dont see the point in having a car purley for show, each to their own I guess :)

There were only 426 Impreza STi 22bs made, with just 20 officially being imported to the UK, the rest (like mine) are Jap imports. They were the model that Colin McRae won the WRC in and *at the time* had pretty much every toy that STi could throw into a car. They have a wider track than the standard STi and flared arches which make it look quite different in the flesh.

It was often quoted as having much more power, but the truth is that it didn't. It did have the short ratio gearbox so felt very fast and it remains a quick car to drive. It's more of an icon now rather than an extreme machine, especially as modern scoobies like the RB320 are much quicker. Quite a few 22bs have been extensively modified though.

It's the rarity that holds up their price along with the heritage of being the scooby that won the WRC. (Obviously not in road going form!).

Dspeed 15 July 2008 07:32 PM

And only 16 offical uk models.

1 for show, 1 for go.

Nice :lol1:

(Sorry, couldn't resist).

mervil 15 July 2008 08:04 PM

My favourite Scoob of all time!! IIRC the reason he's not driving them is because of registering issues :wonder:

Looking stunning though :thumb:

blu scoob 15 July 2008 08:54 PM

thanks for the coments;) , Ive said before I wanted a car to keep because Ive always wanted a nice car to put away and now Im lucky to be able to do that.As to reging them one can be regd now and the other can be done in October:notworthy

Brun 16 July 2008 11:51 AM

Mcrae won the WRC in a 4 door "L555 Bat". In fact, the 22B look alike rally Car never won the WRC :)

smifffy 16 July 2008 01:24 PM

What??? I demand my money back! :lol1:

Good point and I stand corrected. It's still a thing of beauty and McRae did enjoy his.

YouTube - Colin McRae with his Impreza 22b

Like all WRC cars of the modern era, the actual WRC car virtually nothing to do with its roadgoing bretheren. I suppose the closest we get these days is the Group N class?

I wonder how many 22b owners are going to the McRae gathering?

Brun 16 July 2008 01:28 PM

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Yep - Kill WRC and bring back Grp A and more to the point, Grp B :D

austinwrx 16 July 2008 04:00 PM

I was gonna say- Mc Rae's car was four door !

so what are one of these 2 door 22b's worth then ??
i.e the chap at the top with his in a bubble. :norty:

blu scoob 17 July 2008 08:15 AM

There Worth what ever you can get for them:norty:
