Banksy Unmasked

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Paper 'reveals Banksy's identity'

Now we know who he is, can he be arrested please?

The country requires him to dig deep to repay councils for the countless clean up operations around the country as a direct result of his illegal vandalism.

If it is right that it is him, lets hope his next piece of work is on his cell wall :Suspiciou .

Agree 100%.

Over-hyped nonsense, serious case of reputation over talent.

GC8 13 July 2008 04:50 PM

Philistines.

WhatswiththeR 13 July 2008 05:00 PM

some of his stuff is really good but others are just stupid like that stunt with that mitsi gto in that arch-way what was the point in that? if someone submitted that as a GCSE peice it would get a F straight away

M444GY 13 July 2008 05:47 PM

Freak 13 July 2008 06:09 PM

I have several banksy originals, and a load of prints.
Dont believe everything you read- especially in the daily (hate) mail

I assume you mean at the cans festival?
That wasnt Banksy- that installation with the red GTO & clio in the waterloo tunnel was by an artist called BANDIT. The piece on the wall behind (black background, hoodie with a knife) was indeed by Banksy

Wurzel 13 July 2008 06:42 PM

Never heard of him.

Scoobychick 13 July 2008 06:43 PM

Banksy

Ian 13 July 2008 06:57 PM

some very good stuff there, some of them really make you think

Henrik 13 July 2008 07:12 PM

The tunnel in London looks fantastic! It's not all banksy, of course, but there's a lot of good art in there.

For a commoner like myself, with no "art" aspirations or knowledge, it looks fantastic. It's clear even to me that many of the grafitti artists are extremely talented in their field.

Alg 13 July 2008 07:38 PM

Just shows how today people are willing to accept/proclaim mediocrity as excellence, celebrity from borderline average.
Is there a lack of real talent or have standards dropped, has the level at which art or performance is deemed to be top quality been lowered.

Or maybe i'm just too old to get it.

But have you been to see one in person? To me, it looks pretty hard technically. Sure, the "tags" you see on walls etc are just rubbish put up by little scrotes, but IMO the proper "works" are a completely different ball-game.

CrisPDuk 13 July 2008 11:29 PM

I've never actually heard of him, but some of the stuff on that website is very impressive :thumb:

Suresh 13 July 2008 11:40 PM

A very talented if somewhat disturbed soul!

Leslie 14 July 2008 11:09 AM

He is certainly talented.

Followed his work for a while. I've never been able to buy an original on POW, the site has always crashed when BANKSY's are released. I've got a few other pieces from POW though. My favourite is 'The Hick' by Hewlitt. I didn't pay 3k and I won't sell it for 260k ;)

Dream Weaver 14 July 2008 01:55 PM

I quite like the Banksy stuff, art by its very nature is all in the eye of the beholder so it cannot be claimed to be good or bad.

Std "shaz 4 baz" graffiti found on motorway bridges is not in the same league as the banksy stuff.

Alg 14 July 2008 05:33 PM

How can you believe what you've written and then state one is not in the same league as the other?
Surely everything must be subjective. What is and what isn't art?

Abdabz 14 July 2008 06:00 PM

Art is subjective and worthy of critique and comment. Illegal vandalism isnt.

scoobynutta555 14 July 2008 06:10 PM

I would agree with that, but for the fact that Banksy's illegal vandalism is protected, preserved and flogged off wherever found. Shaz 4 Baz is covered over or blasted off.

I think he is superb, he can come and make one of his statements on the side of my house, anytime he likes :notworthy

If Tracey Emin presented that as art then the art establishment would believe her and fawn all over her. The Sun would proclaim it s h i * e and we'd all agree but it would still be termed art.

Maybe you are, but give yourself a chance & try & *read* 'Wall & Piece' ...then look at the artwork, guarantee you'll see more to his work than just mindless vandalism

& I never thought i'd see the day that Banksy & Jamie Hewlett get a mention in the same thread on scoobynet!
