Why do people do it??!

Why do some people feel the need to rally slag their scoobies? By this I mean sticker up their car with all the rally decals.

Is it just me, or do others find this sad and it makes me cringe when I see a scooby with "Subaru World Rally Team" on it?
I mean you don't see Evo drivers or even Citroen, Peugeot or Ford drivers rally slag their cars.
What would you guys think of a standard Citroen C4 decked out with WRC graphics?

Don't get me wrong, I love the Subaru rally cars, but I don't get where the love is for people stickering up their cars as a rally car, when everyone knows it isn't. IMO it's just like sticking STI badges on a WRX etc

Reason for my rant is because there's a silver classic down the road and has the full rally graphics and looks so "chavvy" especially with the lexus lights, chavvy wheels etc

No offence intended here, but just wanted to hear some of the people who have stickered up their rides as to the reasoning behind it.

PetesDad 10 July 2008 11:44 PM

Rally Wannabbees ...... :D

scoobynutta555 10 July 2008 11:47 PM

You're not the only one who finds it sad ;)

harry007 11 July 2008 10:23 AM

is it me or.....someone missed the point....subaru imprezas are technically rally cars!!!! so what if someone wants replicate the rally car?...I'm a beemer owner by the way LOL..

p.s. no stickers.

scooby L 11 July 2008 10:30 AM

Down to personal choice....I'm not a decal fan but it's no different to the tuning guys having their shopping list on the wing is it.

Moley 11 July 2008 10:35 AM

Maybe because Citreon, Peugeot and Ford don't make road going versions of their rally cars.
If they did there would probably be more people with the graphics fitted.

joekont 11 July 2008 10:40 AM

Silvers not a good colour for it.

White looks good.
Blue not so much.

richardg 11 July 2008 10:43 AM

i'm into tuned scooters and i can't understand the attraction with covering them in lights and mirrors and dressing like a mod [which if you think about it is a contradiction in terms.....why would a "modernist" be wearing 'retro' style clothes]

...each to their own i say :thumb:

I used to share your view mate... but in reality.. the Subaru rally car is as closely related to a road going Subaru as a Honda Fireblade to a honda lawnmower lol... sad but true.

Why do you think they call them FireBlades?

Blades of grass??

:norty:

Got a Gixxer meself..

Daft Lad 11 July 2008 11:12 AM

I think when the rally kist are done properly they look bob on, its when people only stick the big swoosh on the doors and maybe a couple of other stickers that I think it looks tacky. That said, I slagged up my first Impreza and loved it to bits, and didn't really give a toss what anybody else thought of it! Live and let live!

EOEUMC 11 July 2008 11:12 AM

If everyone had the same opinion life would be sooooooo boring :( At least they make it look a bit different.

How about non scooby owners where you live, what do you think they think about the bigger exhausts? Nearly everyone has them (not just Subaru's), I bet they think its boring! I personally love the sound the of the flat 4, but then I am biased :p lol
I have one decal on my bonnet, it has the Subaru emblem but with my website name instead of Subaru :thumb:

myblackwrx 11 July 2008 11:12 AM

Slightly sad imo but then you get the ones who reverse the Subaru swoosh:wonder:
Worst of all ,imo, is the Subaru clothing not bad if you've just got the coat or hat but when you see a whole bunch of them it looks very sad (except if they ACTUALLY do drive/work on the rally cars).
A few years ago at Japfest saw a whole family subarued up (mum,dad,2 kids) just sad and weird.

fivetide 11 July 2008 11:44 AM

You sure other owners don't do it?

Seen a few of these in the past

1984 PEUGEOT 205 GTI YELLOW on eBay, also, Peugeot, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 15-Jul-08 14:28:42 BST)

A fair few of these get stickered up with no intention to ever race

FORD ESCORT MK2 GEMINI BUILT RALLY CAR- MSA LOGBOOK on eBay, also, Ford, Classic Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 14-Jul-08 19:44:57 BST)

Any number of these

Lancia : LANCIA DELTA EVO2 MARTINI

etc etc. i think rally pedigree (as stated) has a lot to do with it. Personally i quite like it although possibly a bit OTT for daily driving.

5t.

The decals aren't for me personally, but I don't have a problem with them. I too can't understand why people put sti badges on their wrx's. I don't have a problem with them fitting all the sti bits for performance gains at all, just why put a badge on something it's not. If they want it to be an sti so much, go and buy an sti. :wonder:

N_Scooby 11 July 2008 12:40 PM

I put graphics on my silver '95 WRX after going to a meet then looking back at the photos of the evening and not being 100% sure which of silver classics was mine. Don't know what the percentage of classics are silver, seems to be increasing around my area though. Same goes for blue bugs. Without individuality life would be boring!

Thats a very good point, why do they do that?? :wonder:

DENSO
MOTUL

Peanuts 11 July 2008 01:07 PM

gay and crap
HTH :)

Dan W 11 July 2008 01:09 PM

Come on,
why have cars got to be one colour and no stickers.

There is no harm in stickering up your car. No matter what make or model it is.

Surely it makes the roads a more interesting place instead of seeing car after car after car one boring colour.

Admittedly some cars look ok when understated but why is that ok but stickers a sin?

:(

Jap stuff almost begs to be stickered if you ask me.

In fact so does alot of the german stuff.

horses for courses if you ask me.

stilover 11 July 2008 01:12 PM

Each to their own.

If you don't like stickered up Impreza's, don't do it yourself.
Those that do like it, will/have done it.

Mondeo man could ask what people see in chavy Impreza's.

The world would be boring if we all liked/hated the same things.

Do you think the same about football fans who wear their clubs shirt?
Nothing wrong with supporting a team whether it be a football team or a rally team. The money goes towards the team.

I do tend to agree with this but then my wrx has got a cerise grill badge which was on when i bought it. I've been wandering whether to change it or not but can't decide plus our lass likes it because its pink :norty: as for decals, look great on blue not so great on other colours imo.

PetesDad 11 July 2008 01:29 PM

Stickered up Impreza to fear!!!

http://www.websitereviews.info/pics/anpr.jpg

Do you notice the number of 'hits' marked as cars down the wing? ;)

:lol1:

There is a whole thread on here about such beasts on here somewhere.

I think some of the Essex Crew have connections.

Fair point but i have never seen Mitsi drivers/familes dressed all in Ralliart clothes (not saying it doesn't happen though).

Yep.....One of the Essex crew drives one for a living! :D

As for the stickers, if done right they can look ok, personal choice at the end of the day.

Even better when they have the full WRC kit added aswell! :norty:

Subaru's. Sorry, different matter. Don't know why, just can't stand it.

Citroen Rally replica

JohnD 11 July 2008 03:19 PM

If I were 18 again I might be tempted. Unfortunately, I've grown up :( Short of a small, descrete tuning firm sticker (only if you really HAVE a tuned car!) I personally, would not consider any such adornments.
One thing you must remember, though - these guys actually do special rally stages - from the pub to McDonalds ;)

JohnD

PS And I come from Essex! ;)

Now that in my opinion is a rally replica... not an Impreza with some rally decals stuck on it...totally different beast.
