What tyres you running and how good....size/make

I am interested to know whtat tyres are popular at the moment as mine are in serious need of some new one's
I have Pirrelli 205/45/17 at the moment and they feel too slim and not very grippy.

I'm looking to go for some 215's.

What have you got on your scoob? and are you happy with them?

scooby-tc 09 July 2008 05:30 PM

Im running Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas on mine and they are fantastic in all conditions these are 225/40/18 on a 2005 Spec C,on the Type R i am running Falkens which are a really good tyre in terms of wear although i have never pushed them hard to find out how grippy they are

I was just about to ask a similar question, ordered a set of 17" alloys on Monday, paid £55 for a Toyo tyre upgrade 205/40/17. Got an email from the company today telling me I would HAVE to have 215/40/17's on a Subaru :wonder: at an extra cost of £110 on top of the £55 upgrade!!! Seen o lot of cars running 205/40/17's, I was just a bit bewildered when the bloke said the car HAD to have the 215's. Any ideas?? By the way, I cancelled the order there and then!

Just trecently put 4 tyres on the wife's Xantia, and while I was in, I was looking at some Dayton D300's.

Good tyre, by all accounts, made by Bridgestone, looks similar to a Toyo, has a lifetime guarantee against accidental damage, and costs £85 a corner, fitted, balanced etc.

Bob I went for Toyo T1R's on the classic. They are really good and it was fun scrubbing them in as recomended:D I normally run Vredesteins on the New Age but they aren't available in 215/40/17:rolleyes: At least they weren't until I just checked camskill:lol1:

VREDESTEIN TYRES / CAR / VREDESTEIN ULTRAC SESSANTA - 215/40R17 87Y XL : £99.00 : Car Tyres - MPV Tyres - People Carrier Tyres : R17" - 215/40/17, 215/40 R 17 -

I can't deny I was tempted by the price of the toyos at only £66 quid a corner from Camskill, they are a bargain. I would also be quite happy with the Toyo PX4's aswell:)

If you can get and afford the Vredesteins they are excellent:thumb:

Running standard 16s but I'm very pleased with my Michelin Pilot Exaltos. I used to always run Goodyear Eagle F1, but wouldn't go back to them now, although they were great in the wet. I think in 17" you can get Pilot Sports which presumably are even better than the Exaltos.

I have seen Toyo T1S's for £62.50 fitted and free fitting (local to me)

£250 all in seems good to me so I may go for these.

S's are softer than the R's and need to be inflated higher to cope with the soft sidewall. Also the S's don't have the rain groove to help water dispersal. Still a good tyre but won't last as long as the R's:)

im running 215/40/17 toyo t1r,they are about half way through life, the fronts are just showing signs of scrubbing on the outer edges, but the grip is much better than what i had fitted before.

when i bought my scoob it had 205/45/17 on it,once they wore out i swapped em over to 215/40 on the same alloys, dont get me wrong a 215 would be better on it but think they having your pants down,or trying to

Major_Sarcasm 09 July 2008 11:26 PM

I recently changed the fronts on mine. Nearly went for my usual Toyos, but decided on a pair of Yokohama Parada Spec II from Camskill in 215x40x17.

Excellent, funky tread pattern, certainly comparable to Toyos for grip now that they've bedded in a bit, highly recommended.

Is the 'Toyo Proxes 4RF' any good?

Flaps 10 July 2008 08:12 AM

I did a search on this a few months back when I needed some for my WRX and found a survey but I can't find it now :wonder:
Toyo T1R's and Goodyear F1's came out first and second. My local tyre place said T1R's were out of stock but he could get me the F1's for £20 more (£5 each) and they were the better tyre so I went for those. £350 fitted for 4. I'm imprezzed so far ;)

stigaz 11 July 2008 08:01 PM

has anyone had the t1r and eagle f1 and can compare how long they lasted?

i would go for the eagle f1 if they last a bit longer than the t1r

jasonius 12 July 2008 09:34 PM

No comparison between T1-R's and GY asymmetrics. Just a question of availability in 215 and/or 16"..:(

I thought the toyo's were a very good tyre until I had the asymmetrics fitted ~3 months ago. However, I'd have to rate them as average to poor now..

Get GYA's if you can, you won't be disappointed (after scrubbing for ~500 miles that is..;))

Agreed, I went from the RE070s to the GYAs and the latter are a far better all around tyre.

bighead 13 July 2008 10:04 PM

goodyear F1 asymmetrics best so far , had goodyear f1s , toyo t1s, toyo t1R, but would like to try the Michelin Pilot Sports .

scoobian 14 July 2008 09:13 PM

Parada spec II for me too
....very happy with them: seem to be wearing well, good grip and look goood to ...which is a bonus in the carpark

RyanSTI 16 July 2008 07:48 PM

again prada spec 2's for me, toyo's are ****e in the wet. well the t1s was.

SC008Y_MAD 17 July 2008 12:02 PM

I am running Vredestein Ultrac 205/50/16 and although they are a nice tyre, I find they they squeal when corning even when I am not pushing them, no grip in the wet and same on the dry. I even find them lose grip even when breaking even with my 2 pots, M1155 pads, S/S brake lines and 5.1 fluid....and apparently they are one of the best tyres around...I think not.

On the hole I don't like these tyres at all. when its time to change, I think I will either get T1-R or Bridgestone Potenza RE050

ChoddyChod 17 July 2008 12:07 PM

Vredestein Sessantas on mine, great tyres with a sexy pattern.

stevie 54 wrx swagon 17 July 2008 05:15 PM

Not usually a big fan of Kwik Fit but just got a full set of 215/45 17 Bridgestone Potenza RE050s, fully fitted, balanced for £400. They seem pretty good.

PS I've got 2 'prestivo sport' 215/45 R17 91W which look almost brand new - open to offers if anyone is interested.
