Urgent help needed with steering
 

Please can anybody help me. Over the last month I have had a strange noise when turning the steering wheel. My car my03 wrx.

The best way to descibe the noise is like a hinge that needs oiling. I turn the wheel when stationary or moving and it sounds like a rusty gate hinge. The noise has got louder as time has gone on. I did take it to a local garage and he said the steering was ok. But I know my car and the steering now has so much play in it.

I'm taking it to extreme scoobies tomorrow morning because this is doing my head in. Please has anybody got any ideas.

dont take this the wrong way, but have you checked the fluid level? i have read a few things on here, and people have sounds the same, top the fluid up and it goes away.

I found out the problem and I'm very looking to still be posting. It's most definately the offside wheel bearing. I got hold of the wheel and tried to move it and there's so much movement it's untrue. Local garage never said anything. It feels like the wheel is ready to come off.

Checked the other three and there is absolutely no movement. Just glad I checked now before the wheel came off on my way to work.
