on early classic imprezas a mechanical converter is placed on the back of the speedo head to deretrict it and let the odometer read in miles not sure about other models.
All JDM cars were limited to 112mph or so

you can get a mapped chip on here from scott taylor (scott.t) and it does what you want and give a damn good bhp increase as well around 150 pounds and you can fit it yourself
