power steering pump, what is the wire at the back?, and is it needed?
as above, on the power steering pump, there is a wire at the back, is this some sort of sensor? is this needed, as the replacement pump i got has not got this.
I have a apexi ecu if it makes any difference? thanks ian |
The wire is connected to the Pressure sensing switch on the pump - when the steering isnt turned with the engine running, the switch opens to by-pass the oil back to the reservoir.
If the original pump has it then the replacement should. Mick |
ok some more info i have found out.
the sensor is just brass, no holes in the end like a normal engine oil pressure sensor |
there was one on my 93 wrx as you say it is just a brass block , i thought it was just an earth for static build up mine was leaking 4 years ago and dissconnected it and arildited the brass block in , no probs at all

sounds like it is not needed, anyone know what it is for?

a total guess, is it possibly a sensor used to raise engine revs slightly when the steering is used and the engine is at idle speed (ie reacts to the load).
Proably not but all I can think of :) |
bttt
anyone got a diagram or something that i can get some info off? |
I wouldn't bother about a diagram for it DaOne, unfeesiblylarjdoodahs got it right. In practice you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference with the sensor connected or unconnected. Running a pump without the sensor wire attached will give you no issues, std ecu or Apexi.

thank you AlanG, that is what i wanted to hear, something that i dont have to worry about now :)
