Faulty monitor any sugestions, no power.
 

hey ive got a 19" tft montior that ive taken back to ebuyer 6times now. Whats happening is I have it on and within 2 hours the screen goes black. Power to adapter, but non to monitor.

Usually happens when I turn pc on or off.

They have said there is no fault but there very much is. Ive even left it 24 hours to make sure its not just me, and i have tried 4 other monitors so its not my pc.

Suggestions?:freak3:

Anything to do with the power saving options interfering with it ?

When the screen goes black, does the power light stay on

Green = power and signal
Amber/orange = power no signal
No light = no power

My current guess is that the light is staying green and the picture disappears after a while. If this is the case then the issue is with the backlights and the problem component will be the inverter.


I spent a few years as a monitor repair engineer for the likes of HP and Dell etc, and this is by far and away the most common fault with lcd displays.

have you tried to contact the manufacturer direct?

Thanks wizz didnt see this thread, when the power saving cuts in it turns the power light to non and stays blackscreen.

So what is that?

They keep fixing it but its a pain this is the 6th time.
Im guessing its only costing them 20p to fix otherwise they just send a new one out.

I would doubt very much that they are fixing anything as they wont have the authority to interfere with the warranty from the factory.


So...it powers on, works for a while then loses all power ?? and it has an external power supply (power brick/adapter) which retains its power led at all times ??

If its left unplugged for a period of time, will it power up after (when cold)??


If the above is true then it sounds very much like a faulty IC on the main board (or scaler).

Without actually seeing it and being able to look at the insides I can only sumise. But it does sound like a cooking component(s)

Take it back again and demand a replacement (not fit for purpose)...if they still wont give you one then demand that they soak test the unit for 24 hours.

it works totally fine when I get it back, then as soon as the power monitor cuts in (leaving it for 20mins) I cant get it back on. And the power goes dead and the monitor.

Ive left it for 12 hours -24hours and plug it in and its dead.

sounds like more of a PC problem (very unusual to get 2 faulty monitors)

What happens if you

> Turn off Monitor via the mains
> DISCONNECT the monitor from the PC.
> (wait 5 minutes)
> Power up the monitor

Do you get lights / any indication that it's alive?

they havent sent 2 monitors they just send the same monitor. Ive had the monitor on its own for 24 hours and power it up and its dead. Just on its own without anything.

Ive had about 6 monitors with my pc and nothing has ever happened.

Ive phoned them up they say they cant do a refund but will look into it so ive told them to do a soak test but ill phone the head man when its back there. I've also recored the problem so it be up on youtube for everyone to comment on how ebuyer is.

Have you tried it with another PC to see what happens?

no but they have wrote on there notes they have fixed what ever it was 3 times.

Have they detailed what was fixed?


In any event, the sales of Goods act states that when you buy items, they must be serviceable for 6 years.

What this means, in effect, is that if the item had an inherent fault when you bought it, you can demand a replacement or a repair. Now, since you are presumably still in your warranty period, I would start demanding a replacement.

If you contact the trading standards office they will only be too happy to help.

had the same thing with a new Samsung 24" monitor, assuming it was a pc thing, I spent ages upgrading, downgrading drivers, even swapping out graphics cards.
In the end traced it to a faulty vga lead that came with the monitor - swapped it for a spare and no problem since. Have you checked the video lead too?
