does anyone know how to fit a fuel filter?

joey_turbo 23 June 2008 07:18 PM

its fairly close the the washer tank, looks like black cup with 3 or so pipes coming out of the top.
best to get an original subaru one.

i thought it was on the bottom of the fuel pump ???

joey_turbo 23 June 2008 08:36 PM

Nope. That is a filter, but not really a replaceable one. Thats also known as the teabag.

is it just a case of dissconnecting the old one and putting on the new one, probably use clamps to stop petrol coming out the pipes

joey_turbo 24 June 2008 09:15 AM

I'd disconnect the fuel pump plug and let the car use up all the petrol in the lines. Keep it running until it cuts out. That will get rid of most of the petrol int the lines, and you won't need to clamp anything.
Not sure if there is a fuel pump fuse thats easier to get to instead of unplugging the pump, there most probably is, but I don't know where that it.

how do i dissconect the fuel pump ,where is the fuel pump , under the back seat?

Davros 1979 24 June 2008 09:56 PM

Yeah. Dont worry bout doing that.

Leave the car overnight so the pressure drops and replace the filter. Just have a few rags at hand for when you disconnect.

Done it myself this way and no problems.

I left my car at about 9 in the morning, started changing the filter at about 1 in the afternoon and f all petrol came out the pipes, so just a few hours should be long enough for the pressure to drop.
Really easy job, only pain really is getting the fuel pipes on/off.

just give them a gentle wiggle with a pair of plyers with a cloth so not to damage the hose, breaks the seal easy....
