97 UK 2000 Turbo Engine and Gearbox required

Wifes 97 UK 2000 Turbo engine is making the dreaded banging noises from the bottom end. (does a boxer have a bottom end, or is it a middle end? :wonder: )

Anyone got a standard unmodified engine (coil pack on top job) or know of anywhere local (Peterborough/Cambridge) that will do a rebuild without needing a second mortgage. The prices I've seen so far are more than the car is worth
:eek2:

Whilst I'm on I may be needing a 5 speed manual box for my 97 Uk 2000 Turbo Wagon. (Having the same cars saves on arguaments LOL, and also useful when you cannot remember how something went back together, just look at the other one :norty: )

Or may just break wifes and use the box for mine, but she likes hers so would ideally like to save myself earache by getting it going again.

Heres hoping,
Tony : )

Speak to David @ Api, buying a secondhand engine can be fraught with danger unless you know exactly what you are looking for. Better to get a rebuild with a warranty.

This engine wont be a straight swap, 99> phase2, 97/98 are phase1.5, 96< phase1 design. Only the short block will be compatible.

Looks like the gearbox is sorted, thanks everyone.

Still looking for a replacement engine tho, something cheap preferred as have purchased a replacement car, 53 WRX :smug: , so the urgency is gone. Just don't want to scrap the old girl, she's too nice.

If anyone wants to offer to take her away....

Thanks everyone for your help :notworthy

Picked up an engine with near 35,000 miles less than the one that blew up and a gearbox with half the miles of the original today in my local area for good money :)

Will be fitting next week, then the green saloon will be up for sale. Anyone want a nice uk car with aircon, full closure alarm and REAR WASHWIPE?

Thanks again everbody :)

ash002004 20 June 2008 07:40 PM

rear washwipe? very nice :) havent seen any yet?!

his-n-her-scoobs 21 June 2008 10:29 AM

Yeah, very rare, like UK cars never had it fitted to save weight :lol1:

Fitted a JDM import rear screen and washwipe about 3 months ago. The only real problem is that the JDM cars are bronze tint. Uk cars are green tint. Not really noticeable unless you are looking for it. An internal tint would sort it. Swap wiper switchgear and washer bottle for UK Wagon version. Simple wiring mod.

Why they thought it was uneccessary in UK I don't know. :cuckoo:

PM me if you want more info on the mod. :-)
