First of all I'm not bemoaning the good work done by the moderators on this board, and the effort they put in for the good of the community.

On saying that, if you are going to move posts around as you see fit can you please make sure the rule is applied to everyone as there are so many *non subaru* related posts in general scoobynet discussion. Fair point if you post a private sale in wanted, or drive train sections, but if you would like to reach the whole community, general discussion is the place it should go.

The vast majority of people will click on general discussion and are unlikely to click non related or other sections. If you want to reach everyone, then thats the place it should be.

I don't like having my posts moved around as it's un helpfull to a quick needed answer, just like my post earlier today which, having been moved to insurance has received very little feedback. The case can be argued that it is an insurance based topic but it's also a traffic incident and there are no sections for that.

Thank you for reading.

The "Spam" post, now that should be in the Non subaru section or Computers

EvilBevel 01 February 2002 03:56 PM

Luke, that makes a much sense as saying that the "STi sinks in lake" picture should be posted in ICE ;)

Fullon, difficult one this IMHO... yeah it's insurance related, but I agree that it perhaps should not have been moved.

OTOH, I don't think it's got anything to do with over zealous moderating though...

I'm glad I don't have to read every post/topic & decide if it's in the right forum or not. Especially since so many people have been abusing General lately. You may have fallen victim of that :(

EvilBevel 01 February 2002 04:11 PM

Maybe temporarily a link to your original thread might help ?

http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...threadid=69259

Sal, don't you have the dark powers to put it back here BTW ? It is your dominion innit ? :D

Scoobychick 01 February 2002 04:14 PM

Theo I do but it's more than my life is worth to move it without the say so from above ;) However I have requested that it be done :)

EvilBevel 01 February 2002 04:15 PM

Isn't "he upstairs" eating snow at the moment ? :D

Scoobychick 01 February 2002 04:17 PM

Yep lucky bu99er! I've sent it to his deputies ;)

Kippax 01 February 2002 04:22 PM

I got a couple of posts moved within minutes from one forum. I agree they were better placed in a more specific forum but I needed a quick response. There were others in there just as unrelated. The only difference I could see is that I had 300 posts and the others were high posters or women.

If my threads got closed, surely threads like 'whats the best windscreen wash' should be relegated to the 'WGAF' forum.

Scoobychick 01 February 2002 04:28 PM

It's being moved back to general :)

Shaun 01 February 2002 04:32 PM

The formentioned thread has now been moved back to General, BUT for the only reason because it was VERY BORDERLINE that it was an Insurance/Legal thread.

Please remember that the FORUMS have been set-up and structured for the reason of finding the appropriate information easily. Just because YOU want an immediate response to a thread, does not warrant placing it in the General Forum, when it QUITE CLEARLY does not belong there.

Careful consideration has always been maintained, with the structure of these forums, and has/continues to work very well.

Regards,
Shaun.

JohnS 01 February 2002 04:36 PM

It was me that moved it. There were already a few useful replies by the time I had though, so it wasn't as though no-one had responded quickly enough.

The content for the general forum is "General Subaru / ScoobyNet Discussion ", ie things relating to Subaru's or Scoobynet in general, none of which really applied in this case.

The Spam thread was Scoobynet related (of sorts), as it was concerning use of e-mail addresses via Scoobynet.

I know there are often lots of non Subaru related threads in here, and we do our best to move them into the correct forum, but we can't read all the threads all of the time.

Quite often threads will start off being "on topic", but sometimes they drift off onto other subjects, at which point they might be better in another forum.

On many occasions it's a very difficult call to make

The reason I moved your thread was, although it was a very valid question with any answers hopefully being very useful, if anyone else had a similar problem in the future it would be much easier for them to start searching (if search was working)/looking in the insurance forum. This forum is for all insurance related issues, and not just "who gives the best quotes." type questions.

I think you'll also find that people who are in the insurance industry (and are hopefully experts in this area ;)) do tend to spend quite a bit of time in there helping people out.

Also, from previous experience we find that threads that get locked/moved in general, tend to get a disproportionate number of hits/views, as many members are very keen to see why a particular thread was locked/moved, so in a way I may have done you a favour ;)

I vote that any further discussions on the subject be conducted on I-Chat ;)

John

EvilBevel 01 February 2002 04:39 PM

Shaun, John, there was no intention from my part to upset you.

I feel spanked now :(

Will only post in WGAF from now on :( ;)

Mungo 01 February 2002 04:40 PM

Whilst appreciating the enormous efforts of the moderators, over the last week or so there seem to be a lot of muppet-style posts in the General forum....

Kippax 01 February 2002 04:40 PM

Shaun,

I think this BBS is really good and I respect you guys for giving your time to moderate it.

I also agree unrelated threads should be moved but there is some in here right now (4.33pm) that quite clearly do not belong there.

Stu.

Shaun 01 February 2002 04:49 PM

Kippax,

I don't want to string out this issue anymore then what is needed, and as John has already pointed out, it would take an immense amount of time to read EVERY thread in it's entirety. Since I have logged onto Scoobynet for this session, I have just spent the last 45mins just sorting this issue out. I havent even had chance to scan the forums. Please understand that this is a difficult and time consuming task, and we can't always get it right.

Regards,
Shaun.

Kippax 01 February 2002 04:51 PM

OK Shaun.

Fullonloon 01 February 2002 04:56 PM

Thank you for the quick feedback. Some good points and explanations. Enough has been said.

JohnS 01 February 2002 04:56 PM

Theo,

no offence taken :D

Sometimes it's a tough call whether to move a thread or not, and sometimes we get it wrong ;)

John

Shark 01 February 2002 05:18 PM

Moderate this corner :D

EvilBevel 01 February 2002 06:38 PM

John,

>>Sometimes it's a tough call whether to move a thread or not, and sometimes we get it wrong

I absolutely agree with the tough call bit - as you know. It's great to see - hats off - that you guys did notice the request for having something restored, shows how cool you guys/gals actually are.

I did intend to offend Shaun though :D ;) :p

Shaun 01 February 2002 07:33 PM

Theo,

YOUR BANNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

............at least twice!!! :p

EvilBevel 01 February 2002 07:35 PM

(This user tried, but could not post a devastating retort )

Kevin Groat 01 February 2002 07:37 PM

Moderators - have a look at PPRUNE.ORG - professional pilots bulletin board, they leave the original thread and replies till it's closed in the section it's posted. They then close it in that section but also transfer it to the new section where it is then active - worth a look.

Kevin.

EvilBevel 01 February 2002 07:39 PM

Great tip actually Kevin ...
