Subject says it all.

I have a MY99 5 door, which I love more than life itseld, but I have been eyeing off an RB5 (non prodrive) of the same age but less miles (14K vs 22K) available at a local garage. I have spoken to them and should be able to do a fairly good deal.

So, opinions please. I personally think that the RB5 looks the dogs danglies, but wonder if the 4K price difference over a standard turbo is justified.

Any RB5 owners out there, do the rather obvious looks of the car attract more attention from thieves, twats with keys and other general lowlife scum ?

I take your point, but insurance companies don't seem to friendly when it comes to performance enhancements like the PPP, whereas they are willing to insure the RB5 for exactly the same premium as the 5 door. Go figure...

If you do go for an RB5 (highly recommended), don't go for one that doesn't have the PPP. The difference between an RB with and without the PPP is usually a small one which makes the non PPP'd version way overpriced and the PPP'd one just a little overpriced.

Agree with Puff though, best VFM would be to do a few small/cheap but critical mods to your current model though.

You're talking about trading virtually identical cars, but you'll lose money on selling your MY99 and on buying the RB5.

What you lose will probably be a lot more than a respray and a set of wheels.

As you already have an MY99, I don't see much point in buying an RB5 unless it is the Prodrive version. At least that way you'll get a better car than before.

As pointed out, you'd be better off getting the Prodrive mods fitted to your existing car. I imagine you'll find the insurance on your car + PPP to be the same as an RB5 Prodrive.

buy it!!!! The extras you get with the RB5 are worth the extra money. Seems to be holding it's value fairly well and only 443 made. The extras you get over a std turbo are: Aircon, Fully colour coded body kit, central remote locking with extra security alarm, different colour interior trim (blue alcantara), unique embossed mats, rare body colour (not available on UK models), gorgeous 17" titanium colour wheels, quick-shift gear linkage, fixed rear bulkhead, PIAA driving lamps, map reading spot lamps, dark silver console/dash trim, different dials surround, erm, erm, go faster RB5 badges on sides and boot lid, erm.........cuddly toy, cuddly toy.........

It may be worth swapping - try driving it and comparing to yours: the 17" wheels make a big difference to the handling.

However, you may find it cheaper to add 17" wheels to your car and for the 4 grand you could also add the PPP at the same time http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

You may also like to note (as you currently have a 5 door) that this:

fixed rear bulkhead

My standard UK RB5 has been rated as group 18 by the insurance companies I contacted so it cost me more than my 97 turbo to insure when I changed. Check it out by getting a quote.
The car is brilliant and doesnt attract attention at night as it fades into the dusk and doesnt stand out. The 22B seats are great cause thats what they are - 22B seats as standard.
Steering wheel has also got red stitching instead of black.
I didnt realise the rear seats didnt split til after Id bought mine too. Need roof racks for skis.

Bollocks, no RB5 for me as the finance company obviously does not want my future business.

I have a two year HP arrangement, and I have made the first two payments (I know, I know, but its human nature to change our minds ...)

The total interest was supposed to be £1600, and they want to effectively charge £900 of this to refinance on the new car. I just can't understand their logic, its not as if I'm selling the car and doing a runner ... £900 interest for two months. Not bad money at all!!! By my logic (£1600 / 24 * 3 = £200 and that is being generous ie 3 months interest!)

So, for anyone interested in a real bargain.

RB5, 14K miles, pristine condition £18995 at AF Noble. This is at least £1500 - £2000 cheaper than any other dealer.
