It's 6PM on new year's day, 2002. You're half-asleep behind the bar of a half-wrecked pub in Edinburgh. The Angel Gabriel is shaking you awake with some urgency. There is nobody else around, the streets are empty and the power's off. Your cellphone can't get a signal. As he plies you with hangover-shattering espresso generated out of thin air, he explains to you that the apocalypse is finally in progress.

"You're the last one. Everybody else got on the transport we'd arranged, but you got overlooked. Sorry about that.

"You need to get to London before midnight. I can't supply an aircraft because a war is in progress between various angels, demons etc, and you certainly won't make it. No trains are running. You need to leave NOW because the Four Horsemen are heading south and laying waste to everything, and you don't want to mix it up with them, I can tell you... You can have ANY roadgoing vehicle you like, and as much fuel as you need, just get to Hyde Park for the Judgement session before midnight or you're toast."

You have four hours, a road map, hundreds of miles of guaranteed-empty roadspace, no police, no pedestrians, no speedlimits and your headache has gone. Looking out of the pub's filthy windows you can see the dull glow of destruction rolling steadily in from the north. Now you need something to drive.

Gentlemen, choose your weapons...

On the basis that you will need something big and fast, possibly 4X4 with decent off road ability (to dodge all the death and destruction raining down on you http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif) I reckon something like a Range Rover which has had the full Overfinch treatment (5.7 litre V8, 330+ BHP 470lb/ft etc)

Other options anyone? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Something which would be a bit of a challenge to make it in 4 hours, a C reg Diesel Sierra (or something along those lines), under normal circumstances a 911 Turbo would do the job, but 4 hours would leave a lot of spare time (which is no fun) http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

harj 10 January 2001 09:21 AM

Its gotta be a Ferrari F40 but you do need some Music when driving so maybe a 550. If not I can always dip into my garage and pull out the old fella's RS200 with 575BHP but London will only take 2 hours in any of these. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Someone tell me when this is gonna happen so I can plan the route http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif LOL

Airmiles 10 January 2001 10:44 AM

Well I guess the apocalypse might bu66er up the petrol supply - so you'd need something that'd do it on one tank.

A4 Quattro diesel....

Or for a bit of lateral thinking, since the land is likely to be a mess, how about one of those F1 offshore powerboats?? 140 MPH on water!

Dave T-S 10 January 2001 07:56 PM

Harj - you planning the route - the man said 6 HOURS not 6 bloody weeks to get there..... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

... and then a switch to a McLaren F1 half way down - for the sake of investigating what 240+mph is really like.

RonaldoH 12 January 2001 10:19 AM

Anything fast and brutal driven by either SDB/JohnF or Eddie Irvine http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Ideally a Brabus M-Class with full armour kit producing 430bhp and 500lbs of torque at 6000rpms. That would do me nicely and in that situation either of the above would get me there in no time at all given that tool that scoots along to 180mph http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

It's obvious: Astra diesel van, the fastest thing on the roads.....seroiusly though I'd have a RUF 911....bye bye.......

RVeiga 12 January 2001 01:45 PM

Anything with a speed of 125mph+. Time from Gravesend - Kent to Stirling - Scotland with fully loaded estate car 6 hours so seems quite achievable in quite a lot of cars.

Did these several times by leaving kent @ 3.00am only stopping for fuel and arrived at the Stirling office next to the Monument for 9.00am coffee. (Must try it the P1 one day http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif)

If I had a choice then a Ducati 916PS. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
