No.2 went on mine, I had a lumpy tickover but otherwise the engine ran fine for 25,000 kms. I had a feeling in the back of my mind that it needed a compression test and so got one done......only to find that no.2 had half the compression of the rest of the cylinders and lost 85% on the leakdown test. I stuck some 'piston ring release' additive in, as well as injector cleaner.....2 weeks later I was driving home looking like a Red Arrow with the mother and father of all smoke trails in my wake and lots of funny looks from fellow commuters.
Now my old EJ20 engine is being replaced with a new 2.5 sti unit complete with all the goodies - forged pistons, billet rods, polished and ported heads, big injectors and turbo etc, etc. I guess every smokey engine destruction cloud has a silvery sti lining :)
