As far as I remember from my bike riding days, motorbikes get around 80mpg?

Just seems like a bunch of bikers on a nice sunny day trip party.

50 year ago and 125cc they may have done 80 mpg :rolleyes:

They're still having to pay more to use their bikes though. The more protests the better IMO. Might make the Government act sooner rather than......... not at all :freak3:

80 MPG - You aren't trying hard enough. You can get about 10 if you are enjoying your machine as it was intended. 80 miles should be the time you are looking for a new back tyre

Does make a bit of a mockery of the ban thing though, get rid of one account and he's back within no time whatsoever, larger than life, with a new account. The only hope is for the paid up members to use the instant ban feature to delete his duplicate accounts but he'll keep coming back.

On the plus side you can infract him as much as you like. It's not like he can go running along to the webmaster now to complain that he is being victimised. Don't think the webby will have much sympathy towards an already banned user :D

I genuinely do not know what mpg your average motorbike achieves - but if I was getting 80mpg out of a Honda Twin many decades ago I would have thought that the situation would have improved by now?

Enlighten me - what is the mpg of your 'average' bike?

I belive its a phenomenon that was coined as the "Mary Whitehouse effect". Something that is banned, or should be in the eyes of some, gains a wider audience through its publicised notoriety.

sorry for posting on topic, but I get about 45-50 on a 600, sportier bike more like 35 I believe

Sports bikes get 35 - 40 mpg generally, anything over 600 cc seems to be the same, 500 twins do better, 50ish but I suspect there is a market for a diesel bike, I remember there was a Royal Enfield with a derv engine, they still make them in India (or did then) and it did 100 mpg, surely there is a market for a smallish turbo diesel bike using modern tech that does the same ?

Thanks for the mpg figures. I'm amazed that I was getting so much better mpg many decades ago when I was riding.

Honda 500 Fours would get 50mpg as far as I can remember - unless my memory is failing??

My point on post 1 was that I doubt the protest made any difference whatsoever, except for the fact that the riders spent money on fuel they didn't have to!!

They would gain more fans if they WALKED down the motorway .... but, of course, that's uncomforable.

We only protest in this country if that protest doesn't actually affect us too much - sad, but true.

As long as the bikers that took part all paid into a compensatory scheme for the good people caught up in the protest and inconvenienced by it, then good on them :thumb:
If no such compensatory scheme was created, then it's a shame the other vehicles affected didnt use them as skittles ;)
