Help. When out in my WRX TypeRA today, under acceleration the car lost power in a big way, the check engine light came on and I was unable to drive over 3000ish revs or with anything but the slightest touch on the throttle.Anything other than this results in much stuttering and even greater embarrassment. Does anyone have any idea where the problem might lie bearing in mind the problem manifests when boost should start coming in. I'd really really appreciate any help or advice.

Pob, firstly check the speedo cable is connected going into the gearbox (next to the turbo-be carefull to fiddle when cold) and check that this is still connected...this can be a cause of the safe mode cutting in (which has happened on yours) if it is this, place the bung back in or the speedo cable into the alloy block and off you go....after 100 yards the light will go out and you can continue as normal. If no joy, get it to the dealership you brought it from or any scooby specialist in your area.

Kind Regards
Ronnie

Check under DRIVETRAIN from the last 10 days under my heading HELP NO BOOST!!
Carried out the ecu check on my 94 ra (had the same problem as yours)and it turns out to be athe knock sensor!
Just need to know were i can buy one!!

Pob 12 January 2001 02:13 PM

Thanks for that. I have a feeling that the knock sensor is the same as the uk turbo one.
All you'ld need is someone with a uk turbo to get one for you. Possibly the dealer where you got the car could help. I can't see why jap/ uk spec would be any different?
Re speedo sensor, no joy there but I'm taking the car to a diagnostic centre on Monday so fingers crossed.

Thanks again for everones help, did the diagnostic ECU code malarky and it looks like the MAF sensor is on the blink. Would it come as a surprise if I said I had an HKS induction kit? On the hunt for a new sensor now.
