ENGINE TYPE ???????

When i originally bought my 96 wagon i was told it had a replacement engine with less miles under its belt. Its recently come to light that i actually don't know what engine it is:wonder: . Ive asked previous owner but to no avail as it was the owner before them who had the engine changed. The thing that confuses matters is that the manifold is from an sti ra (says on the manifold and there is a fifth injector). I recently paid a visit to a subaru specialist (looking for other bits) and he seemed to think that the manifold possibly matched up to the engine as there no signs/marks on the engine from the manifold being fitted. The gearbox is (i think) a standard wrx as it doesn't turn the engine into a revving monster like the ra set up. Can anyone help me out, is there any way of finding out what engine ive got without taking it apart pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaase

How ?? I'd like to know that because l have never found a way of identifying a Subaru engine model type by the number.

All I can think of is to google in all the EJ20???? variations and add 'picture' and see if any look familiar.

Good luck

Cams and pistons are the only way to accurately identify an EJ20 turbo of any sort. Once you have sight of them you can be precise. Until you do, it is all guesswork. Informed guess possibly, but a guess is a guess.

Exactly as David says ^^^. Without dismantling the engines it's impossible to tell.
