DOES HAVING A PPP AFFECT YOUR INSURANCE
 

Hi everyone, was just wondering if it made a big difference to the cost.

Depends on your insurer. The big names will add quite a lot, but the specialists only a little (in general).

I would suggest your driving history will make a bigger difference....

it does on mine,they class it as a modification even though its fitted by a subaru dealer.strangely not classed on a mod if its on a special edition such as rb5 or uk300.its a rip off i tell thee.

I found a few insurers class the parts that make up the PPP as individual modifications, rather than one as a whole which added a fair bit. Generally the ones who didn't know what PPP was as it happens.

Speclialists tend to be more knowledgable of what it is so don't bump the price up anywhere near as much.

At the end of the day it's a modification (or at least classed as an optional extra) so it's always likely to make a difference but it does depend on the insurer.

Ditto the WRX300.

As already quoted go to a specialist instead of a major insurer.

Privilege were the cheapest for me (Blobeye STI) until I told them it had PPP, which put it up an extra £350 :eek:. Went with A plan in the end and saved £200 :luxhello:.

I didn't even tell mine, it came up with the reg plate. So I wouldn't know the price difference or how to take the title off when I take the PPP off...

Very risky, still seems to be ongoing confusion on here re Prodrive Style cars and PPP...

Try Gary @ Keith Michaels........ I recently insured my current run around car with them (while finding a scoob) and one scoob I have found has several mods, ECU remap, air filter, exhaust etc etc. So I checked with him to see how much the price would go up should I get it and I was told it would be minimal or possibly nothing.

The underwriters they use specialise in cars that are in group 15 and above and was told the prices only start going up if you have added "stage 2" mods, this includes bigger turbo's, injectors etc.

Give them a try as they were the cheapest by some margin for me.

I had a load of hassle with Admiral last year when I got the PPP fitted - they said the car had been modified and wanted another £150 even though the 301HP PPP car is listed on their database.The clown I spoke to would not believe that all 301HP STIs have the kit fitted after registration and not from new.
When renewal time came I got a great quote from Bell who funnily enough are owned by Admiral for less than I had paid for the 260HP STI the year before.
Its definitely worth asking first as most of the insurance companies just dont have a clue and seem to pull a figure from thin air.

When I first got my STI in 2005, every insurance company classed PPP as a aftermarket mod, and charged accordingly. First years premium was £1200.

Soon after though, most recognised it as a manufacturer option, and charged only a little extra over standard. Second years premium dropped to £700.
