Major fuel leak after rolling road!
Hey guys
Took my car to have a power run today up at a garage in Norwich, only managed 1 run as on the run down it decided to dump about a litre of fuel on to the floor! Been smelling fuel for a while so had it checked out at Scoobyclinic whilst the car was in there, they couldn't find anything wrong but did change the fuel pump seal to be safe. The smell disappeared for a few weeks till today! The mechanics had a look for me and the top of the tank was soaked and all the paint removed so its been doing it a while, they reckon the hoses and seal are fine so it must be pressurising the tank whilst running and pushing the fuel out of the top. Does any one have any ideas why it might be doing this? There is no charcoal canister by the engine the pipes have just been looped back together, would this affect anything? On a plus note it did make 288.5BHP and 267.7lbft Torque so was quite happy! Any help would be appreciated!! Wayne |
Better than making 1000 degrees centigrade !
You were lucky ! Why would having no breathers be a good thing ? DunxC P.S. Mine spat a fuel injector seal and I had a V-Power "petrol-fall" pouring down the exhaust up-pipe..... GULP ! |
LOL true, was very lucky it didn't ignite on the exhaust!!!
No idea it never had the canister on it when i had got the car and when i had the engine built the builder just looped a pipe back together. Anyone got any ideas why its over pressurising? Cheers Wayne |

The tank vent must be blocked (the third pipe comming through the bulkhead with the fuel feed & return) it should have a one way valve on it so it can vent out from the tank, to atmosphere
There is no need to connect any of the pipes together as they are all vent out pipes. If you can post a picture I can tell you what ones to disconnect. |
The what now!!! I just finished work so ill take some photos when i get up! Any help would be great!! Just drove it home from work not even going above 30 and petrol is spilling out everywhere! Not gonna be using it till its fixed now!!!

Just bung a 2mm hole right through the filler cap and keep them bunged in the engine bay, unless you route them down the tranny tunnel you'll end up smelling petrol vapour.

Thats flywheel estimated power (made 244.5WHP).
I was thinking about putting a hole in the cap but would rather get it sorted and find the problem. Heres a pic of where the carbon canister has been removed and a pipe added on, is this right? http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...a/100_1222.jpg I cant find the tank vent pipe could someone point it out on the picture here - http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...a/100_1223.jpg Thanks Wayne |
Just been looking at the tank, is there a vent pipe off the tank?
|
first pic is the problem as SSCJAY says.. there is nowhere for the tank to vent!
remove pipe and problem should be gone |
