Difference between gearbox mountings on 5 and 6 speed!

Help! I've hit another problem today with uprated gearbox mounting, I was going to have API fit the Prodrive uprated 6 speed gearbox mount (which I supplied) but it seems the item I have is for a 5 speed - the bracket when compared with the standard item that came off the car is different in depth, ie the prodrive bracket has more solid rubber all along its length (as expected) but also has more depth in the middle than the oe bracket, it makes the gearbox jack up when fitted and then the shifter or other parts rub the underside.

Anyone got pics of 6 speed box bracket compared to 5 speed (prodrive or not)? I need to confirm what this bracket is.

Thanks

Tony

David at API will be able to tell you

He wasn't sure...hence being on here.

Anyone got pics of the difference?

I've used the same STi GP N mount on both a 5 and 6 spd box without this trouble - are the Prodrive ones just rebadged STi items?
I've got std 5 & 6 spd mounts in the attic somewhere - I'll go and have a look in a bit.

Right, I've lost the std 5 spd mount, but the boxes for both Gp N mounts I've fitted on both g/box types are part no.s ST4100055200.
The STi site now shows the mount part as being ST410224S000 or ST410224S040 (even harder) as from 2005.

Hi nick,

No idea if they're rebadged jobs but if the sti has full rubber inside the "mounting" then its most likely the same, unless rubber is different hardness?

I'm confused, do you not need to change mounts on a new age when going from 5 speed to 6 speed?:wonder:

Tony,
I had one mount on a WRX wagon.
Whne I moved to the Spec D Sti I bought another Gp N mount with ths same part number.
I've dug around a bit more on US sites and STi sell two types of uprated mounts, each is different for 5 and 6 spd boxes.
Here's some pictures - spot the difference??
5spd

6 spd
Transmission Mount- 6MT
It means I've been running around on a 5 spd mount for over a year on a 6 spd box.
I've not noticed any problem with the std gearchange - did David say there's any problems running like this?

Hi Nick,

Spot on m8, that's the difference, my Prodrive mount is approx 2cm's taller and when it was on the car is looked like the box was really jacked up - it also had the gear selector rubbing against the underside of the car. They didn't fully fight the mount (tighten bolts) as it looked so bad, plus they had another WRc item in stock that would fit correctly....but means I've got try get my money back from supplier of Prodrive item.

APi really weren't keen to fit it m8 but interesting that you've had no problems, I'd def say it will jack your box up a little when bolted together.

Hi nick,

Looks like I've been stung on this one, Mark at Lateral confirms that this Prodrive mount fits both 5 and 6 speed boxes without problem. He also said watch out for the oe mount becoming smaller because the rubber compresses - this I've checked and you can see where its shrunk and split the tiny side rubbers, ie yes its dropped by approx 1 cm. Once you ignore the difference in underside metal strips as oe item steeper, you can put spirit level between them and see difference in fitting is approx 1 cm or less. Seems I could use that mount after all!
