Car clangers

You know.Every car company has a phase where they must employ design staffwho loved a sherbert at lunchtime or something.Any obvious ones that make your eyes pop out?

I love Astons from 50's to current date, but what was the sore thumb that was the Zagato all about:rolleyes:

Any paricular favourites that still make you want to poke your eyes out?

Shark Man 03 June 2008 12:25 PM

Ssanyong Rodius

BMW 6 Series -what happened to the boot on that? I think it got to 13:30 on a Friday afternoon and the designer thought "My round of golf tees off in 30 in minutes!" at which point he just drew a line across the back and said it was finished.

The very first model Kia "Pride", pride in what I'm not sure it was a god awful car :lol1:

Jerome 03 June 2008 01:08 PM

In no particular order:

Renault Twingo
Citroen 2CV
Skoda Roomster
Volvo 340
Merc CLS (very latest shape)
Aston Martin Lagonda
Most front engined Ferraris (especially recent ones)
Ford Granada (last shape)
Ford Taurus (US/Canada market - late 90's model)

Edit to add:

Mini Clubman
Pontiac Aztec (Click here if you haven't eaten lunch...)

GC8WRX 03 June 2008 02:52 PM

I think the Aztec maybe the winner! that is one fugly car!

Markus 03 June 2008 03:01 PM

Ponticrap Aztec *shudder* <goes for a lie down> How the christ that ever got released I'll never know. I think what happened was someone commented "Pontiac's are crap" and a designer misheard it as "We want a Pontiac that looks like a pile of crap"

AMC Pacer is another double bagger.

Scoobychick 03 June 2008 06:04 PM

Here's a good selection although I don't agree with some - I think the Bubble Car is cute as is the Frog Eyed wotsit :thumb: The Ugliest Cars in Britain

i was selling a fiat multipla last week , took it for an MOT and got a multipla wave (like a scooby wave) of a sexy woman :)

windyboy 04 June 2008 12:19 PM

Another vote for the Skoda Roomster, it looks like the front and back were designed by different people then the two bits of paper were sellotaped together.

boxst 04 June 2008 12:42 PM

I have to say the Fiat Multipla. I'm told it is actually a reasonable car, but the designer who came up with that must have been on something ...

Steve

I remember going to the British Motorshow in the NEC when this POC was released.
This really fit blond poster girl was trying to sell one to my father who asked her, politely, why it was such a hideous design.

The poster girl replied that the design was inspired by a dolphin, I kid ye not.

Shark Man 04 June 2008 02:31 PM

I always thought the old Multipla looked kind of cool*. Certainly something more interesting to look at that the bland boxes that competed with it, or even the new model that replaced it.

It was crying out to be painted yellow and black and have two antennae fixed above the windscreen, along with a bee-sting aerial at the back :lol1:

* would never buy one...I would even have an X3 before one of them, and that would make me suicidal
