Quick opinion needed pls

Ive spotted a p1 prodrive for sale. Its on a 51 plate with 44k on it with fsh. Ive spoken to the guy a couple of times and hes described the car as mint. Although its three hours away from me im assured its worth the trip. Its up for 10750. What do you think? See a link below.

Looks nice from the pictures. Go take a look, why not... Just treat it like any other car purchase. Check for FSH, ID numbers, check shut lines on all panels, look for over spray and signs of respray, etc etc. If there is anything that is not perfect then walk away. It is very much a buyers market for the Impreza and you will find a perfect car with the cash you have...

Dan.

Lot of money for a classic even though it's a P1.
I wouldn't PERSONALLY want to pay more than £7-£8k. Impreza prices are plummeting. Not going up.
If your gonna keep it in the garage for 10 years then it'll apprecite.

I think thats a bit high meself but what do I know

imprezaworks 01 June 2008 03:39 PM

I just dont want to go all the way there, for the car not to be that nice. Just spoke to him again and hes sending some more pics over. What do think price wise? Might be a daft question but how would you be able to tell if its had a rebuild??

Can't really comment on the car itself as I don't really know too much about the current selling prices of a P1 but one thing I will say is don't take any sellers comments "it's worth the trip" etc as gospel..... I recently went to look at a 2003 blobeye making a trip about the same distance as your thinking of doing and I was also told "you won’t be disappointed" only to find out the car wasn't all it was cracked up to be after making the long trip (dings, chips, marks on interior, engine as black as the underside of the car, dull paint, damaged wheels etc etc).

For what its worth my advice would be, if possible, get them to send you as many UP TO DATE pictures of the car as possible including close up ones of any mentioned chips etc. Obviously cars will have chips/little dings but if you can get as good idea as possible of the condition of the car before you go then you won’t get there and be disappointed/wasted your time.

There are some P1's on for a lot more than that. I reckon this one is mid priced.

You may not be ablt to tell if it has been rebuilt unless you know these cars very very well. Is there someone you could take along with you who knows their stuff?

imprezaworks 01 June 2008 03:53 PM

Ive had three imprezas in the past so id like to think i know a little. But i wouldnt know where to start looking if its had a rebuild. Thats the only concern as i know the p1 can be prone to engine failure. I know what your saying with regards to price, i could get a blob sti for a liitle bit more money. Ive just allways loved the look of the p1.

Engine bay is a bit manky considering the condition of the rest of the car ? My 95 looks in better condition !

The ad is 50 days old, and the washer bottle is nearly empty. Got to be room for a haggle there?

Being a 51 plate you'll be spanked on the road tax increases, unless Mr Eyebrows does a U turn!

Just something to keep in mind, who knows where these rises will end.

chocolate_o_brian 02 June 2008 01:39 PM

echo the above, you will stung for road tax, so why not save a few hundred ££ a year and buy a 2000 plate p1. its stooopid the same exact car can be in two tax brackets, but i know if it were me, id get a late 2000/really early 2001 (pre-march) to save on tax alone.

id look elsewhere if i were you.

stevie1982 02 June 2008 01:53 PM

mate to be honest if you like it go and get it,

but

road tax woul dput me off as said above buy the yar b4 have exactlt the same car but half the cost in tax.
aslo i owned one and woul dnot of bought or buy one again which has not had an engine rebuild as i am sure you know to get it done and get it done right you can go and buy a scoob itself for the same money. and i am not saying all go bang but many have and many still will do.

if i were you i would buy one from here or the P1 owners club

but that is just my 2 bits worth

it'll need a rebuild soon as p1 engines only last 50k miles:brickwall

I can see you having a bright future on here :thumb:

If your looking at P1s you'll know the drill.

Its quite expensive and its in the higher tax bracket. Theres a peach of a modded P1 knocking about for near enough the same money.

Personally, for the money you pay on a P1 you may as well get a Type R. And there are plenty with good history. Having said that I would still consider a P1 but I want all the toys this time.
