VISTA

IS it any good yet.Reason im asking is because,i like to have a play on the games now and then.I bought flight sim x and the acceleration pack the other day.It runs on the direct x 10,which i haven't got because im still using xp.So is anyone using vista and direct x 10 for games, and is it better,is it worth upgrading to vista.Im not bothered about fancy desktops and stuff, this is just for playing games and watching DVD's..

Depends who you ask ...

I would say yes its much better than XP, all my applications are faster, its encodes videos better .. runs every game I've tried !!

Other say its a major ball ache !!

Get it and dual boot !!

I've been using vista for about 18 months, and found it better than XP.

Can't say about DX10 though as my graphics card doesn't support it.

MMMM cheers i might just get it,pc world are doing the home premium with the upgrade pack for £69.00..as for the graphics card,it's an ATI 3870.i remember installing it for xp,so ill probably have to reinstall it for vista..ive just gone into the overdrive options on the graphics card, and press the button for auto tune.EFF me it's auto tuned the GPU clock from 776 MHZ,to 871 MHZ..

I'd be very surprised if Vista doesn't auto install it, if not on install later on when it up dates !!

I've not found anything Vista couldn't install yet ..

As I was one of the biggest Anti Vista peeps I have to say I'm now a convert
I had to re-install my laptop (Hard Drive failure) so on went Vista without any bloatware or Norton and it has run sweetly ever since.
Not once has it crashed or given me any grief. In fact I'm seriously looking at changing the tower over to Vista as well I'm that happy. :thumb:

Never thought I would say it but I LIKE Vista;)

I've got Vista on my laptop and XP on my PC and I have to say I prefer Vista :thumb:

Likewise always preferred Vista over XP. Gaming, well only viable if you have a fast PC, as framerates do suffer under Vista compared to XP.

any of you guys have probs with your samba shares with vista. 64 bit drivers for netgear products are a joke. i have a storgage central with 2x500gb drives that i can only access via my xp machine. real PITA.

I came across this while trying to help a friend out

* Start the registry editor - regedit
* Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Contro l>Lsa
* Modify the value of the lmcompatibilitylevel setting it to 1

May help, obviously I take no responsibility for you meddling with your registry.

Interestingly I didn't have to do this with my new laptop running Vista 32 Ultimate SP1

well ive gone and bought it,and everything is working fine so far.installation was no problems.took about an hour to install, and im starting to like it..had to reinstall the graphics card for the vista, and re download msn explorer. But apart from that everything is running good.im just playing at the moment with it..i dont why ive been hearing such bad things about it.Maybe with this new service pack it has improved it or something..

Supercue 26 May 2008 05:02 PM

The service pack did iron boatloads of issues out. You have to remember a lot peeps had Vista with low RAM. ie they bought a cheap lappy with 512mb ram and as most normally come with Norton 360 preloaded they ran like dogs.

Remove all the bloatware and install decent RAM and Vista runs faster than an Argie Soldier;)
