starting problems
 

untill recently my car started as soon as you turned the key, know when cold i have to crank it over for ages b4 it starts.its ok when hot.the car is a2002sti anybody got any ideas what may be causing it?

hello dean i had this problem on my 2002 wrx. but the opposite way to you. would start fine in the morning but if the engine was slightly warm or hot somethimes the car would crank for ages before starting upto 6 seconds. this was an intermitant fault! so took my car main dealer and they couldnt find anythink wrong with my car because it didnt happen there. it wasnt till i was talking to gramham goode that one of the guys for the workshop came out to me said that it took us ages to find wot was happening to there customers car think that was a 2003. anyway it was down to a crankshaft sensor. i put a new sensor in cost over 100 pounds and it hasnt done it since! going on over a year now so i would say that it fixed this intermittant fault.

I've considered replacing the crank. sensor but want to make sure that's the problem before spending the money. In the US those sensors are around $34! Maybe we should have a group buy!!

thanks for the replys i,ll try cleaning the crank sender to see if that helps.

i dnt think that cleaning it would solve the problem personally! let me know how it goes tho
