Urgent advice needed re radiator upgrade

I'm posting for my brother, so please bear with me if I'm not being very technical.

He's upgrading the radiator in his MY94 WRX and discovered that the new radiator is deeper than the old one and now one of the fans is hard up against the pulleys and belts.

Can anyone advise what he needs to do to sort this problem out or if it's OK to just run with one fan?

It's kinda urgent cos he needs the car for tomorrow!!!!!

Many thanks,

Alison

it might be "ok" to run one fan ,as it only come on when car is in heavy traffic or stationary , but take it to a specialist to see if he's fitted the wrong radiator or he might of fitted incorrectly :)

ps welcome to our site :)

Thanks. It should be the right radiator - it's for a GC8 if I remember correctly. We've given up for the night cos it's freezing!

The new rad is a fair bit wider than the old one but it's meant to be a straight swap.

The hoses are tight as well. He's had a nightmare trying to get them on - there's not much room. I've been trying to make encouraging noises but got into trouble!! :)

And thanks for the welcome - he's been a member for a while, but forgot his original login! Had to change it.

Ah tomorrow is another day - maybe it'll work out OK.

if its the r8 one ....then it "should fit fine"..if not , its either fitted incorrectly, or its the wrong one for yr model year :)

I have a fr mount intercoooler and my uprated GGR radiator is behind that and the fans have plenty clearence from the engine pulleys :)

good luck anyway :thumb:

Thank you. I don't know that much about it other than it's a GC8 RA high flow race radiator and is listed to fit (including) turbo models 93-00. It's 55mm wide I think - a good bit wider than the standard one. He's now wondering if the FMIC is gonna fit. The A/C is going to be coming out and the intercooler put in but he's starting to have serious doubts if it's going to go in.

And for tonight, I don't think I'm going to mention rads at all. Might be safer!!
