is your line on the interleaving or fast path?

were you downloading at the time?

what were you pinging?

you need to ring your Service Provider but lowering your ping can make your connection become unreliable.

Pings for ADSL are normally around the 60 -100 mark

Cable can give you much lower but really the only way to decrease your ping is to make sure you PC isn't running any spyware or other internet using applications.

Your ISP will have probably set it for the best stable connection.

With Zen I was first getting pings of around 45-55 ish and noticed they had put me on the interleaving path. Switching to the Fast path my pings reduced to around 25-35, of course sometimes interleaving is needed for error correction purposes and it may well be that the ISP in this case have had it enabled for this reason. IIRC some ISP switch it on by default (I think Sky do this for the 16 meg connection). Bad routing can cause high pings and we have been down this road before on here IIRC with someones AOL connection. Of course spyware may well be the issue as may a lot of other factors.....ticky wireless connection for example
