Redline Shockproof Gear Oil

Recently put this into my gearbox (93 wrx) and the gear changes are smoother BUT on another forum i use a fellow impreza driver said not to use it BUT he had a PPG gear kit fitted he's said that it can cause problems for the oil supply to the bearings.

Does anyone have any experience in using this on a standard gearbox and has anybody had any problems?

This is the description of it

''A unique lubricant containing a suspension of solid microscopic particles as an extreme pressure agent--unique solid dispersion which cushions gear teeth to help prevent tooth breakage and allows the use of lower viscosities.

Recommended for heavily-loaded racing differentials and transmissions, Off Road racing and problem gearboxes. The viscosity characteristics allow the lubricant to resist throwoff and provide a film thickness similar to a 75W250 grade, while providing the same low fluid friction as an SAE 75W90.'

cheers Paul

I'm using that oil, but I have a PPG kit as well. Was advised that this was the best stuff by Zen who also use it in their TA car.

Well that's a pretty good company to recommend it imo.

How long have you used it for?

This is what the other impreza owner wrote
'I use it for a little bit after being recomended it after the PPG gear kit was fitted but the bearing on the drop gears failed and broke the drop gears in the process only lasted about 500 miles with it in'

Castrol syntrax/driveline is generally what most ppl will recommend/like, (semi synthetic)i tried a few fully synthetics in mine however only to have syncro trouble with 5th gear on my uk turbo.Having read threads at the time a few ppl believed fully synthetic gear oil attributed to the syncro problem and were advised to try castrol syntrax-ran it in mine ever since an its been fine, also a smooth gearchange.

Had the box sorted at zen where i think paul uses millers stuff but found the gearchange too notchy so after a couple of months drained it and bought the castrol, been fine for the last 20,000 mile.

have been using redline shock proof hevay duty for almost 2 yrs now no problem at all. think it all depends on how a person driving habit and abuses the gearbox
