RAM upgrade causing extra heat on latop?

I have a Rock laptop which had 1gb of RAM (2x512) and I bought 2gb (2x1gb) the other day for an 'upgrade'

Since fitting the laptop has deffinately run a lot hotter. I have a laptop cooler with 2 fans and have the cooler on a board on my lap. Before it would always stay cool on my lap and the laptop was cool to touch. Now with the 2gb RAM it's running hot and feels hot to touch and makes my lap hot too.

It's deffinately happened since I fitted the 2gb of RAM.

I googled it and found someone had the exact same problem (posted on a forum) but there was no answer.

Surely this can't be right?

Could be that the RAM your using is of a faster type and therefore why the more heat. The same goes for faster CPUs. The faster it runs the more heat it generates.

Thanks for the reply. The RAM is the same spec/type but just 2x1gb as opposed to 2x512mb.

CPU keeping up with the extra RAM ??

there is more ram, so there could be more ram chips on the pcbs. This will mean there could be more power consumption. The extra power used should not be more than 5W, and to be honest I would guess at 1-2W. You should not really notice that, not unless its a hotspot where the ram is.
