Gearbox questions.

Hi guys new on here so a big hello.

I love subarus and subaru engines, however i'm currently doing an engine conversion, An STi engine into a Volkswagen beach buggy, should go like stink, the thing is i want to use the impreza gearbox in a 2 wheel drive formation using the front drive shafts. Can anyone tell me is it possible to lock or remove anything from the gearbox so i only get drive from the front outputs?
Thanks for any help Ian.

you would need to find something to plug the hole where the propshaft would fit 1st of all.And you may find that the gearbox wont handle all the power through just the front driveshaft output..!! may work for a while but im guessing the box wont last very long.

Do you have to put some kind of converter between the box and engine to reverse the gearing.Because the gearbox will be set with 5 very fast reverse gears and one very slow forward gear otherwise???

i will also be interested to see where you will mount the radiator and intercooler.I have a friend who done just the same thing with a camper, goes like stink, stops like jelly.he didnt up rate his front brakes...

The plan is to have set up made to reverse the rotation of the drive shafts so thus having the 5 forward and just 1 reverse.
Scooby engines can be mated to VW gearboxes but the VW boxes dont like the sort of power i've got in mind (300HP+).
I have since found a company called Saker cars who do a kit that does just what i want and removes the rear output :).

The radiator will be mounted on the rear section of the roll cageso should get adequate cooling there and i think i'll stick with a TMIC seeing as the entire engine will be exposed barring the top so air flow should be sufficient.

Thanks for the input Ian.

Yeah Ricola he's quite well known in the VW world. He is actually using a stock VW box AFAIK. Again thanks for the pointer.
Cheers Ian.
