That's it, I'm off to Lyon for a while

After reading on Scoobynet about threads of emigrating and leaving the UK for a life abroad, pros and cons etc etc, I decided to make a move and seek a better or different way of life in another country.

Motives: I was fed up of the general feeling of miscontent in the UK, congestion, working long hours and a general underappreciation of my talents. Undervalued springs to mind.

My other half quit teaching last year after becoming overwhelmed with the bureaucracy (It was either that or a nervous breakdown) and we don't believe in 'going off sick'. We made a list of countries desirable to live in, France came top and I've worked all out over the past year to find a job in a decent location.

The job in Lyon came about through our parent company - Their jobs are posted in German on an intranet. Good old Google translated all 217 jobs into English, I applied in French (A language I was forced to learn in a previous job!). Six months of negociation I got the job.

I start in 10 days - why am I writing this?

SN has inspired me over the years - it's a bit of an odd relationship, when I'm exhausted after a hard day at the office I find time to read about other people's problems and get an insight into things I would never really consider. I look at other people's cars and hear about the latest mods that make me think about my own scoob from 5-years ago. I even offer advice.

In summary - if you really want to make that change, find some energy (you'll need it) and go for it!

Thanks for the replies, I quite admire the French for getting their own way in Europe.

Thanks, good call on the cars - I have sell my Honda and have the use of a Peugeot 407, can't wait...

Shaking hands seems more acceptable.
