High pitch noise when when accelerator is pressed

Ever since I got my car 40k miles ago I noticed that when I was on the motorway sitting around 70 that holding my foot on the accelerator lighly (part throttle) gives me a high pitch noise (whine) from the engine bay (seems to be coming from behind the dash). Taking my foot off the pedal makes it go and putting it back on brings it back.

It also happens when going slower too and all the way up the rev band - so it isn't the turbo spooling up.

Any thoughts/ideas as to what it might be? The car has been through numerous services and nothing has come up - but I've never mentioned it to the garages before.

It's get annoying now I've changed my exhaust to a quiet one and I can notice the whine more!

Cheers
Richard.

Hi,

I had a similar problem mine sounded like someone blowing across the top of a bottle - it turned out to be my standard recirculating dump valve leaking,
A bit random i no but is worth a look. :thumb:

Thanks for the tip - I'll have it looked into at my next service this month.

Cheers
Richard.

i had this very problem with my 1995 wrx re-circ i fixed this by lubricating valve with spray 3in1 oil just to clean it out basicly. it worked.

Thanks :)

Where abouts is the dump valve in the engine bay?
