STI ECU is it coded and locked?

Hi,

I have a WRX MY54 Prodrive, fitted with that ECU. The engine has been replaced with a Spec C STI engine, which has variable valve toming i think. I ordered an MY55 STI ECU to replace my old prodrive one, since that engine did not have VVT.

The engine will only turn over and not start on the new STI ECU, i am thinking this is maybe because it is coded to a different car?

On the old ECU the engine will fire up, i havent tried to rev since i know it wont be able to control the Variable valve timings.

If the STI ECU is coded, i know i am going to need a remap anyways for the new engine, but how do i get this decoded before the remap?

I really need some help on this, i am running out of ideas :freak3:

Cheers

sounds like you need to get the keys coded to the new ecu

i thought the keys were coded to a little box behind the heater panel for the central locking and imobiliser, leaving me to think the ECU was independant of that? I really dont know, thanks for your comments

i think as above key is coded to ecu. An ecutec dealer can re-code it

Thanks for that, need it coding before i can take the car for a remap thats a problem unless i can send a key and the ecu away, i wonder if that may be possible :wonder:
