I'm in the middle of fitting an amp in the boot.....

Wheres the best place to earth an amp I'm putting in my boot. Where has anyone else put the earth to??? So far the best candidate has to be the bolt underneath the rear seat that holds the seat back in place....

Is it safe to put it there as it will come into contact with the foam from the seat, would I need to insulate it (electrical tape) or would it be safe to have material touching it? , or is there somewhere else I could locate the earth??

Thanks for the help

Cheers
Neil

Sounds fine. Sand the area of contact back to bare metal and use a star washer. Don't need to insulate it - heat is only liberated as power dissipates which occurs across a resistance which should be minimal if the ground connection is sound.

Like John said make sure there is a good clean contact for the earth lead and no you don't need to insolate it as it would only be a problem if a live wire was to touch it.
Have you got the power lead fused under the bonnet and also before the amp? If not I would certainly put one in under your bonnet, as near to the battery as possible.

Looks like you're all sorted - it's an earth so you don't need to insulate it. Just make sure you've got a good contact after sanding a little bit of paint away from the appropriate area.
