is there any informations avaible for the rpm limiters? i think not everyone have same... ?

myblackwrx 28 April 2008 09:19 AM

Speak to Scott T at PolarPerformance he may be able to help

ojr600 28 April 2008 11:28 AM

This may be a question that has been asked before, but how do I tell what ECU I actually have fitted to my car?? Mine has a sticker on the front saying 3B, which doesn't seem to appear on the list...
It's a '96 WRX import, by the way.

OJR. :D

myblackwrx 28 April 2008 11:34 AM

3B is from a wagon but i don't know what year it would be fitted to

3B is early Wagon. Although the Wagon maps didn't change a great deal as there wasn't a power increase in Sept94 as per the saloons.

Hopefully someone will know the answer to this, what are the differences between the 6K and 7K ecus? Obviously one is from the V2 STi and one is from the V2 STi RA but what does the 7K have that the 6K doesn't?

May be worth speaking to Scott T as he's had plenty of experience with early ecus (www.polarperformance.co.uk).

Scott.T 18 May 2008 09:36 PM

If you send me a PM I'll compare the 2 maps when I get on my other PC
There isn't alot of difference though IIRC.

I think the 7K has a bit of a strange fuel map at the low end. No idea why though, asthe ECU will run closed loop fuelling there anyway.
At the top I think their pretty similar, and also run similar boost.
Both have the same rev limit IIRC but could be wrong as along time since I compared side'by'side.

I have a 1996 wrx import v limited and mine has the z4 ecu i think yours should have too

methinks you have the wrong ecu in your car as the z4 is a wrx ecu and you have an STI

shogo10 18 May 2008 11:27 PM

Yeah that is a bit of a grey area there it is classed as a wrx v limited so it should have the z4 however the engine code is a v2 sti and has sti parts fitted too (I know very strange)

myblackwrx 18 May 2008 11:30 PM

That is quite strange

A comparison would be greatly appreciated. I also sent you an e-mail through polar performance asking about the same thing. Any idea on when you may be able to do this because I'm looking at possibly picking up a 7K ECU here soon. Essentially my question is if I already have a 6K ECU in the car but I can source a 7K ECU on the cheap and I have a Type RA intake manifold on the car that has the 5th injector would the upgrade be worthwhile?

Does the 7K ECU have the ability to run the 5th injector? I ask because I've heard rumour that Subaru only put a 5th injector on the Type RA to homologate it for rally use, it doesn't actually see any use in the production cars. Thanks for your time and knowledge Scott.

I drive a 96 wrx sti ii wagon with 260ps also fitted with a 3b ecu - doesn't help much but at least orj600 isn't on his own anymore. If you do replace it with something else - I'll buy your old 3b as a spare.

saiklon 30 May 2008 07:32 AM

As for redlines, the Z4 has a 7000rpm redline while the Z5 has a 7500rpm redline.
