heat sheilds! Grr

the uppipe heat sheild is rattling on my bug Sti, and I am told its a massive bit if work to stop it rattling!

what's the best way and more importantly cheapest! 4 hours labour to change a exhuast pipe seems crazy!

If I get the downpipe done, is it easier to put a new up pipe on while they are at it to get rid of the rattling sheild?

Had a similar problem on my MY02 STI.

Best solution is to have the heatshields on the headers & uppipe removed and replaced with heatwrap. Even better to get them ported at the same time.

Had all mine done by Harvey down in Darlington. Best day trip I ever had!! ;-)

Good idea!

Was did that cost to get done? Did the pipes have to come off to get heat wrapped?

Yes, everything has to come off.

Harvey charges about £400 for ported & wrapped headers and new up-pipe on an exchange basis. Fitting is about £80.

On my STI the engine became much smoother and the turbo spools much quicker.

Do a search for Harvey & Ported Headers and you'll find lots of information.

Try a bit of strategic bending of the heat shield.

Looks like a bit of a mare getting to it... the mechanic could only show the noise by prodding a broom through a tight space!

Is there an easy way to get to the up pipe so i can try and bend or take the sheild off and wrap it?
